this is kinda long so get ready,ok so last night i bought a new graphics card, a pny 9500 gt, for my old(2005 xp) desktop. i installed it and everything was working great. I tried it out with a few games and it worked perfectly. When i woke up this morning, nothing worked. The monitor would not connect through new graphics card, so i had to plug it back in to the onboard. a "found new hardware" notice pops up upon starting up the computer, but when i choose the option to search for the vga it comes up with nothing. i thougth it might be a driver problem, but when i reinsert the cd that came with card, the options menu no longer displays the name of my card and will not let me install any drivers. i tried going to the nvidea website but it says it can detect no nvidea hardwear. at this point i decided to check things out on the inside. i tried reinserting the graphics card, but that had no effect. when i start the computer up, the fan for the card doesnt turn on. at this point i would be happy to just get things back to the way they were. the computer has a crappy onboard graphics card, and nvidea 6150 i think, but i cant figure out how to enable it. the computer starts and goes to windows fine, but once it gets there it doesnt run well. its slow and glitchy. thanks in advance for any advice or help you guys can give

Re: i have issues.....with my video card
e machines
amd athlon 3500+ 2.2ghz windows xp 1.5 g ram nvidea 6150 onboard graphics / pny 9500 gt im going to be honest, i have no idea how to get into the BIOS. i don't even know what motherboard i have. yesterday was my first time doing anything with the internals, and i only recently worked up the confidence to get in there. someone on another site said "Clear the CMOS. Look in the motherboard manual for the CMOS jumper or remove the battery on the motherboard for 30 seconds. (While the computer is off. Reinsert the battery and restart the computer.)" could this help or will it make things worse? All i know about the CMOS is what i just learned from searching it on google. |
