[SOLVED] PC turns on but no picture in monitor?
Hey!
I'm rebuilding my PC/tower and at first it wouldnt turn on but found the power supply was at fault. Now it turns on,the cooling fan runs and sounds healthy but not getting anything on the monitor? The monitor just reverts to standby after 5 secs like nothing is attached to it. The monitor works fine when i plug my other tower in(which works fine) no probs at all so it must be my pc. I'm thinking maybe i haven't plugged something in i should have or in the wrong place? It worked fine a while ago til i pulled plugs out to remove faulty cd drive and when i reattached plugs it stopped working. Now with new power supply,no picture???? |

Re: PC turns on but no picture in monitor?
for running xp you need to up your ram to 512mg
see if you can borrow a 350w or better psu to try in it it lists yours as an atx so dimensions should be ok but before fitting put the m/board power plugs alongside of one another and make sure the same coloured wires go to the same coloured pins on both

Re: PC turns on but no picture in monitor?
Hey all!
Obtained a better PSU (250 W) and i have PC to monitor connection! Now the prob is when it boots it says "CPU fan has failed shutting down to prevent damage to ur computer" and shuts down? Obviously there is an issue with the fan. Does it just need replacing or could it be it's not on properly as i removed it from board and seperated the CPU chip from it but only for 2 mins. heat transfer glue is a little on the tacky side but not dry? In short should i just replace it? |

Re: PC turns on but no picture in monitor?
whenever you disturb the h/sink you have to renew the paste
http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm if the fan is plugged in and not working do you have another fan socket on the m/b to test if it is working if not replace it

Hey!
Soundz like the problem! The fans runs fine when PC is turned on, doesn't make any wierd noises or anything so it must be the paste! Got the PDF and will reapply new paste and see how i go! Cheers! Hey Guys! I'm back after applying the thermal paste onto my CPU and reattaching the heatsink\fan and have run into an even stranger problem! I also purchased a new 550 w PSU as i had to borrow another for testing last time and now after installing 550w PSU my PC won't turn on? The PSU used for testing was a 250 w in a desktop case and the 550 w is brand new outta the box so i doubt it don't work i also tried another 450 w and pc wouldn't turn on with that either?? all of them have 20 pin + 4x4 12v connecter? Why does the 250w work but other faultless ones don't? i can't borrow the 250w anymore so what can i do??? Last edited by dai; 06-03-2009 at 11:33 AM. |

Re: PC turns on but no picture in monitor?
put the main power plugs from the old and the new psu alongside of one another and check the same coloured wires go to the same pins

thanks for da quick reply! I can't get my hands on da 250 w til tomorrow but compared the 550w main connector with the 100 w PSU i was using that did manage to power up my PC but did not give me any monitor signal(original prob which was the lack of 12 v connector on this PSU) and they are identical except the 550 w has a white wire above the grey one(3rd from left, top) and the 100w has an empty slot where the white one should be? Will get the 250w 2moz and check its connector against the 550w but does this help? will post 2moz with results of 250w test! Thanks again! Hi again! Continuing on from last post i checked the wires on the connector of the 450w PSU and it is also missing the white wire just like the 100w psu connector. the connectors only go on one way as with all the plugs so they r connected the right way. the 450w and 100w r identical except 450w has 12v conector and SATA connector. I replaced the 450w with the 100w psu and my pc powers up now and is running as i type(with no picture) but is not shutting down after 10 secs so CPU installation must have been succsessful! Hope this test sheds some light on my prob! Last edited by dai; 06-02-2009 at 09:22 PM. |

Re: PC turns on but no picture in monitor?
Hi!
I got it! The number 2 pin connector on the 550w and the 450w had an extra orange wire so had 2 going into 1 port for some reason? So i pulled the connector from the plastic housing of the 450w and removed the copper wire one as on my 100w it only had a silver metal one! After reinserting the terminal into the plastic and hooking up the PSU to the motherboard my PC suddenly turns on!!! Thanks again guys ur genius's!!!! |
