causes for capacitors to blow on graphics card?

a couple of days ago my PC made a loud bang and since then has shut down every time I have tried to run games on it (works fine browsing internet, running word, etc)

Upon closer inspection of the graphics card it appears that a couple of the capacitors have blown (they are kind of domed at the top and the coating is broken)

Is it normal for Graphics cards to blow like this, or is it a symptom of another cause (faulty PSU, etc)???

I don't want to buy a replacement and have the same thing happen again

Re: causes for capacitors to blow on graphics card?

Hard to say . . it could have been faulty caps to begin with . . there was a plague a couple of years ago when a bunch of counterfiet ones made their way into the mainstream manufacturing process.

I'd start with measuring the voltages comming out of the Power supply:

Test your power supply with a multi meter

Re: causes for capacitors to blow on graphics card?

I have been doing some research since discovering 3 of my FZ72 1500 6.3V caps have blown on my 7600 GT manufactured by EVGA, found a LOT of the same issues with EVGA, may I ask your cards manufacturer?

Re: causes for capacitors to blow on graphics card?

I had four FZ72 1500 6.3V capacitors blow about 2 months ago on my EVGA 7600GT. Very odd. Sure made a popping noise though!
