Ok, well my 8600 seems to be overheating, without me watching it. My fan speed is defaulted to 30%, But I am using the EVGA Precision to overclock my fan speed to 80-85% for cooling sake. My problem is that when ever I start up a game my fan speed goes back to 30% But If I am at my desktop it stays at 80-85%.
Before this my card could run CoD2 to 250FPS constantly. Now it can barely keep steady. anywhere from 72FPS-200FPS... I did not change any of my settings in game I have it to where everything is the lowest it possibly can for FPS sake. With my fan speed at 80-85% my card Idles at 55C-56C... With it on default(30%) it can be as high as 65c-70c. When playing a game I saw it get to 80c once. This all started happening today. I can see and hear my fan spinning and all my other fans in my case(Antec900 are working at top speed). Could someone tell me how to make this stop defaulting back to 30%? I also tried RivaTuner and it did the same thing. sorry for the double post but I am still having this problem and it seems to be getting worse.. I can only play games for about 5minutes without it getting to 80c. Here are some pictures.. Idle with fan at 85% ![]() Fan at 50% after exiting a game. ![]() Some bug/glitch I found when trying to reset the 50% to 85%. This really annoys me because I need to set the % about10 times to get it to stay.

Re: 8600gts evga
your cpu temp is good the reason we look at it is,if it is to high it will throttle back causing similar symptoms to what you have
i don't know why it is not holding the setting
