PSU good enough for video card?

Just got a new PSU the other week a 550 coolmaster extreme. I was recently offered a video card, eVGA 9800 GTX+ SC 512mb. I'm wondering if the PSU would handle the video card well enough thanks.

Re: PSU good enough for video card?

Kind of a tough call. Here are the power requirements:Minimum of a 450 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)
Your PSU has 550w and a combined 32a on the +12 rail. So, technically, it should work. But you should always plan on more than minimum requirements. I would say that you if you can afford it, then get this:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...609&CatId=2533
It might also be helpful to know the rest of your system specs. CPU, Mobo, Ram, hard drives, etc.

Re: PSU good enough for video card?

I always recommend at least a 750w for the 9800GTX+ overclocked card, In the Coolermaster line the Real Power Pros are the recommended models.

Re: PSU good enough for video card?

My thoughts are that if it runs it at all, the lapse of a strong voltage could cause damage to other components. I would not do that one if it were mine.
