8800 GT Temps - issues.

Alright then, so I recently installed a Sound card. It basically sticks right next to my 8800 GT, which has a custom cooling unit(Which usually made the temps stay below 55C, even under load! In Crysis even, It was heaven!)

After installing the sound card though, the heat has no where to go, because the Sound card right next to it, so the heat rebounds(Temps are getting back up to 90c! It's causing some artifacts and other such issues.

Now, I can remedy this by placing a Box Fan next it on High(It cools the steel the heat, but this causes -alot- of noise and forces me to use my headset for basically anything I need to listen in detail to - which, as you can imagine, is a pain.

They're so close together, as I only have 2 PCI-E slots on my rather small mobo.

I'm just totally at a loss as to what to do. I could remove the sound card - but bam, there goes a non-returnable, awesome Sound Card, until I upgrade my computer in a few years...not really a viable option.

Now I was thinking about maybe placing some sort of beam between the two, as to make sure the graphics card would have enough room to release the heat, though it could also conduct the heat directly into the object, unless I use a non-conductive object obviously, which is hard to think of on the fly. They barely have half a inch between each other...

It's really such a bother. Anyone have any ideas on what I could do?

Offhand, the only thing that I can think of to try is an Antec SpotCool. It's a 3 speed fan, much like a TriCool, that is on a gooseneck. Mounts to the motherboard using any of the board's mounting screws. Then you direct the fan wherever you please. Maybe aiming in between the sound and video cards will get the heat out of the case faster and lower the temps a bit. How well it would work is another question.

Re: 8800 GT Temps - issues.

There's no place for a fan like that. I already have a small Antec fan near it that used to blow directly on it, but to install the SOund Card, I removed it and put it on the side of it, it still blows in...the issue isn't so much the fanning one, it's that the heat would normally also just dissipate, but it has no where to go now. Such misfortune.

...It appears you didn't read my post. No offense. I just wanted to post here to confirm, and I guess there really is nothing I can do until I upgrade in a few years.

i did read your post
you can see your computer i cannot
posting your specs gives me a picture of it and lack of circulation is not the only cause of heat

He knows what hes doing, everything plays a role when there is an overheating issue.
