Extremely Hot Card
yesterday I was playing Crysis on high spec and about 10min into the game I started getting video lag and random color dots and black lines all over the screen. (I assume this is artifacting or is it? I don't know) but anyway I closed the game (couldn't alt-tab out) and opened PC Wizard 2008 and opened the "Voltage, Temperature, and Fans" tab and under GPU was: Fan 100% Temp:102C!. After seeing this I shut the computer down and let it sit for a few hours before firing it up again. I haven't played the game again since than and for regular computing it has topped at about 49C. I just built this machine so I don't know for sure but that seems extremely high or was I just over-reacting? thanx -Brad
FYI-That was with the cover off my case becasuse the heatsink is to tall and wont let by case cover go on.(It is a HTPC case not a tower) Computer -Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz -Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H w/ GeForce 9400 chipset -Zotac Nvidia GeForce 9600GT -8GB GSkill DDR2-800 -Corsair 750W PSU -500GB Samsung SATA3.0 -1TB Seagate Baracuda SATA3.0 -Windows Vista Ultimate x64 -Pioneer Blu-Ray Drive -Digital/analog/FM tuner PCIe 1x |

Re: Extremely Hot Card
WOW, 102C.. THATS SOOOOO HOOTTTT FOR A COMPUTER
Thats way to hot, that can fry something... Your computer probably doesn't have enought air isolation ( i'd think this if it was in an enclosed space, under the desk or table) i'd say to put the computer near a window, OR, installing new fans into it.. Also another thing is, if you have everything CRAMPED up in your computer case, thats a bad thing... As for my computer temperature, it only will even reach at 40 C and when doing high loading tasks peeks just at 50 C, when playing a game your graphics card should only be around 50C as well, currently the temp of my nVIDIA 9500GT is 42 C and that with the specs downgraded because im not gaming or anything, just using windows vista aero etc... I recommend trying those tips and see if they work... EVEN 49C without playing games, and just browsing the comp-net is high if ur doing very light loading... Well thats all i can help u with. Hope this information is helpful :D |
