PC Boots with older card not the new one
I cant get my computer to boot with one graphics card, but it will boot just fine with another. This card has worked with this build in the past, but now it doesn't. Power comes on, fans and drives fire up, even the fan on the video card in question comes on. But no boot screen and no beep. Monitor does not recognize a card being connected. Can the card be bad even though I still get power to the fan? It is a Radeon X1600 Pro AGP. Really want this card to work, my Nvidia card isn't powerful enough to play Oblivion. And I don't want to fork out cash for outdated technology, or a new build.

Re: PC Boots with older card not the new one
What graphics card did you have in the first place that worked before you got the X1600 Pro AGP? What power supply do you have in the rig, and please list the brand name and wattage?

Re: PC Boots with older card not the new one
Gforce FX 5500 boots in pc. I have a Q Force 450 watt power supply. The Radeon has worked in the past and quite well. I just fixed a problem I had with this build a while back when this problem popped up, been a couple years since it actually ran. Any ideas, is the card done?

Re: PC Boots with older card not the new one
It might be low on PSU depending how much you have running off the PSU. Or else it might be dead. Do you have another computer with a bigger PSU or do you have a friend who can test the card for you?
Also is your older card a AGP to? If not there is always the chance the AGP slot may have gone. |

Re: PC Boots with older card not the new one
Older card is AGP as well. The psu has worked just fine before, that was with more pci cards connected. I do have a micro atx board I could use to test the card, I have used it to test that card before successfully, of course I don't have another processor to put in it. Which means pulling the processor, cleaning it, and reapplying thermal compound. Real inconvenient, especially if the card proves to be dead. I may try this out sometime this weekend when I have some time. Hopefully someone will come up with something before I attempt that. I just put that processor back in. Its kind of looking like the card may be done. Bummer. Thoughts anyone?
