Nividia screen pausing

Hey everyone,
I'm going to be as straight forward as I can here and well, I have the most irritating problem ever and I badly need some assistance/ guidance.

I'm having problems with the display basically on my sony vaio laptop VGN-AR310E (I'm sure, I'm not too good with computers and dont know how too find out most info atm)
It's a nivida geforce video card and I'm sure thats what I have a problem with.

What it is (a rather strange problem I'm guessing as I cant find much info on this problem and I'm not sure what this problem is called either )
everything works, games movies etc - but the screen keeps constantly pausing for half a second, every second. Its almost as if the framerates too low (even though its on 60hz)
I notice it mainly on games and movies because it freezes the picture non stop every second - however it freezes all the time like this (even on the destop i notice the mouse cursor freezing every second)

Now I dont know if this is a video card problem but it seems about right, anyone have any ideas how to stop the pausing?

A few things you should know -

-am running on vista home on high performance
-have done the usual defrag and disk clean up
-also have cleaned the drivers and registrary (and my pc tells me its up too date)

If anyone has any adice I'll be truly grateful, and please help me out, I just got crysis running perfectly if it wasnt for the annoyining freezing all the time

Thanks

Re: Nividia screen pausing

Its most likely overheating, is the laptop its self running hot??? Try a cooling pad
