Nvidia GeForce 8500gt

Ok so I bought an HP M8400F Media center pc. And i was happy with my purchase because it was cheap for the specs.

when i got home i discovered that when i tried to do anything that had to do with 3d graphics, it would lock up within 2-5 minutes of play(games)

the sound gets stuck in a loop and i cannot even pull up a task manager or minimize. so the only option is to manually reboot.

i upgraded the drivers and everything.

also there seems to be a high-pitched sound that comes from the pc tower moments before the lock up happens.

PC specs are
AMD Phenom X4 9500 / 2.2 GHz Quad-Core
chipset NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE / nForce 430 1000MHz
3GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz PC2-6400 Dimm 240-pin
2 x 360 GB Serial ATA-300 7200 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 256MB
PSU is 300W max.

thanks in advance.

Re: Nvidia GeForce 8500gt

Take it back to where you bought it and inform them of the problems. Usually when people have problems with there pc's after just purchasing them we tell them to take them back asap. There suppose to work perfectly , if anything is wrong with it so soon after buying they need to fix it or give you your money back.

Re: Nvidia GeForce 8500gt

I would return it but I tried to system recovery and it locked up again.

since i got it refurbished it came with no disks because they were "already inside the hard drive"

so now im waiting on those disks to arrive tomorrow see if the recovery works if not i will go and return it the store. I called them and explained the problem and they said they would pay me for the disks i had to order since they didnt provide them.

but id really like to try and fix the problem because i got this pc extremely cheap.

edit- when i ran a 3d test it didnt crash only when i tried to play 2 games i had installed. which are wow and wc3

Re: Nvidia GeForce 8500gt

You really do need the proper drivers in there and you may be a tad short on enough power supply to pull this rig.

Check the specs on your power supply and make sure you have enough amps on the +12 rail to run this pci-e video card. Post brand name and wattage of power supply (and if possible, amps on the +12 rail). All this information should be listed on the side of the power supply.

Re: Nvidia GeForce 8500gt

That PSU is not enough. 2 HD's and a video card and the rest of the specs??? No way, try a new PSU.
