8800 GTS 640MB OC x2 vs GTX260
Well as the heading suggests, will two GTX 260 out perfrom two 8800 GTS 640MB OC edition cards.
The 8800 card seems to have held its value on the market, seen as it was a limited edition card and is no longer produced, and is priced at £250 according to google shops. The GTX 260 has now dropped to an jaw dropping £130 (overclockers.co.uk), now I could sell both of these cards and buy two GTX 260's with the money plus a little of my own money. But is it worth selling these fantastic cards? Any and all help is much appreciated, if anybody happens to have an SLI setup of the two cards and happens to have some benchmark results or even just some Fraps FPS readings that would be great. Thanks in advance |

Re: 8800 GTS 640MB OC x2 vs GTX260
Actually , the old 320/640mb 8800's weren't really special editions. They were made for a short time and then replaced by the newer g92 8800's (256/512mb) because the old ones ran slower and hotter then the g92's.
Google shops isn't a good way of valuing cards. If you look on ebay you'll see there roughly worth anywhere from £25 to £80 which seems much more correct. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/__8800-...2el1313?_rdc=1

Re: 8800 GTS 640MB OC x2 vs GTX260
On a technical standpoint the performance increase will be noticeable , in the effect that you will see frame rates go up. But in reality two 8800's is more then enough to run any game , and with all the bar graphs , frame rate displays , and benchmark results hidden from view , would appear pretty much the same to the human eye.
I usually try to warn people ahead of time , moving from a mid range to high range card produces excellent results. But moving from a high range card to a slightly higher range card usually doesn't do much compared to the previous card. Not only that but sli is still as bad today as it was years ago. Twice the cost and less then half the speed increase.

Re: 8800 GTS 640MB OC x2 vs GTX260
Even crossfire is guilty of the 30 to 40% increase in speed. Honestly your dual 8800's are plenty until the next generation. I would almost wait for the ati 5 series or whatever nvidia next series is after the gtx. It would be the best cost to performance ratio.
