Help with GeForce 8800GT
Hello,
I have an eVGA GeForce 8800GT and its been giving me troubles lately. I was playing Fallout 3, it crashed because the video card over heated. This has happened in the past and I would just use RivaTuner to increase the video cards fan speed and all was well. This time when it crashed, I opened up RivaTuner went to increase the fan speed, but what i was used to being the fanspeed tab was something else...might have been the overclocking tab...yikes...i changed something, the computer restarted and after displaying the welcome screen and my desktop for 3 seconds without problems, it glitched out and there were white vertical lines on my screen. I could not move the mouse. I cant do anything with my computer now....please help, im terrified |

Re: Help with GeForce 8800GT
You really need to list all your specs including the power supply brand name and wattage.

Re: Help with GeForce 8800GT
Go in to the bios and see what the voltages and temperatures are listed as. Report them back here.

Re: Help with GeForce 8800GT
The CPU temps are a little high for idle. Download and run SensorviewPro and report temps and voltages from that program as soon as you start up. Then, put the computer under stress with a demanding game and report the temps at that time to see how much it is heating up.

Re: Help with GeForce 8800GT
See if you can boot into safe or vga mode by hitting f8 when booting. If you can try uninstalling rivatuner from there. Not sure how it loads settings on boot, you may need to clear your cmos as well. Another thing that may be worth trying from safe mode is to see if rivatuner can be stopped from loading using msconfig or services.msc from the run dialog box.

Re: Help with GeForce 8800GT
I was able to boot into safe mode without problems. First thing I tried was to undo what I did in the first place but when I launched RivaTuner, it said: Cannot load RivaTuner32.sys driver. Please ensure that this file exists in RivaTuner's folder and your user account has administrative rights. I checked though and the driver is in the folder, and I am the admin, so I dont know what the deal is with that.
Should I uninstall Riva completly? |

Re: Help with GeForce 8800GT
This sounds confusing...I dont have the manual with me because I live in student housing and the manual is at my parents house.
Are those steps you listed steps to reset the cmos? or is cmos reset the first step of the list? |

Re: Help with GeForce 8800GT
OK, I downloaded the manual from the Asus site and followed their instructions on how to reset the CMOS. When I rebooted, I had to enter the time and date into the BIOS again. It loaded the welcome screen without problems, i was able to see my desktop for about 10 seconds before it locked up again. Symptoms are the same...white vertical lines, colours are weird, i can move the mouse but i cant do much other than that.

Re: Help with GeForce 8800GT
Take the side of the case off and blow a house fan directly on the CPU area and see if it stays on longer.

Re: Help with GeForce 8800GT
Have you tried a system restore to before you changed to the hosed settings?
If that's a no go, I'd suggest uninstalling rivatuner. And if that doesn't help, try a repair install.
