No connection to monitor
I have a really terrible computer at home and stumbled upon a friends computer, which doesn't work but would be an amazing upgrade if i could make it to. His problem was that the monitor wouldn't connect to the PC. I looked at it, reconnected everything as best as i could, and started it up. Everything seems to be working fine, all the fans start running, and the green light on the motherboard lights up, but still there is no connection to the monitor. The motherboard is an Asus P5NSLI, and the graphics card running out of it is a radeon 1950 pro. I've read about other people with the same problem, the difference though is that they all say their graphics card doesn't start up, while mine does as the fan runs fine. Any help i could get would be much appreciated.

Re: No connection to monitor
It could be any number of problems. When a machine doesn't post it can be bad memory , bad cpu , bad video card , bad or in correctly connected drives , ect.
First just try a bios reset and see if it does anything (remove power and clock battery for 5 minutes). If that doesn't do anything try bench testing the machine.

Took out the ram, still no monitor. However, upon reinserting the ram and starting it up again the monitor came up miraculously. It says that it has a Cmos checksum error now.
...and then when i tried to start it again, once more no monitor. I realized that the cable connecting the hard drive had fallen loose and shut the machine down to re connect it, but when i tried to bring the boot screen back up it failed. Last edited by dai; 03-13-2009 at 10:49 PM. |
