which vid card is suited to my system
I need help related to video card.I have a old MB(845) which has 2 PCI slots.
Everything is working fine till yesterday when i tried to play OUTLAWS game.It was crashing on my system. When i tried the same game on my brothers laptop,it was working fine. After googling,I came to know that it was due to the video card not supported by the game..I dont have any external vid card on my system...I assume the system is using the primitive ON-BOARD vid card... Now,i need help how to upgrade the vid card so that i can play games on my Desktop PC. I dont even know how to check which drivers are being used currently.Any one can tell any command to check. If i fix an external vid card in PCI slot, then the system will automatically detect the same or I have to do some setting??? Any Help seriously appreciated... |

Re: which vid card is suited to my system
M/B Intel 82845
740MB of RAM 2.4 GHZ P4 CPU 400W of ATX power supply I found 2 white slots on M/B with PCI1 and PCI2 written against them. So,I think adding an external PCI card will solve my issue. Problem is..One of my freind told me that there are PCI express vid cards which are only supported on latest M/B.So,iam worried if i end up buying such card and it is not supported by my primitive M/B,it would be a waste of money... |

Re: which vid card is suited to my system
You can get relatively new pci versions of cards. There not the greatest performing cards but they will at least get your game going.
This wouldn't happen to be the game would it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlaws_(video_game)

Re: which vid card is suited to my system
Sorry all for a big mistake from my side...edit...I do have a AGP slot on my motherboard near the CPU and now am looking to go for an AGP card.
BTW,Friends...just needed a opinion on any missing parameter on my current specs...Can it be the case that i can play the 3D game using current specs..may be some drivers or Directx issues that i have overlooked. Just checked Directx using dxdiag command and found that they are latest(9.0) I was previouly using HIS m/b which was also using 845 chipset. But,i was able to play OUTLAWS on that M/B. After it failed 6 months before,i tried playing OUTLAWS just before yesterday only to get error message "Outlaws has encountered a problem and needs to close" Any thoughts on this..I just need to play OUTLAWS on my system and if current specs can help me playing it,ii can avoid the extra cost of a vid card. 2 845 chipsets....one can play 3D games and one not..quite surprised. ![]()

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlaws_(video_game) because almost any computer should be able to play it

Re: which vid card is suited to my system
That game is very old and should play on any computer made in the last 14 years. You really shouldn't need a video card at all. What was the exact error you are receiving?
According to wiki the game has known issues with newer versions of windows , so you might try an old 9x machine.

Re: which vid card is suited to my system
Whenever I try playing this game, the main interface opens and i select 'Main'.After that, another window is displayed which asks for difficulty level 'Good,Bad and Ugly'.I select 'Good' and then the screen goes black and after 4-5 seconds, message is displayed as 'OUTLAWS has encountered a problem and needs to close.blah blah blah".
In fact,i was also wondering if the first 2 windows are showing properly, then it should be some missing dlls issue with my system. I was previously also using WinXP on old Motherboard without any issues.I dont have any spare system to test it(win 9x M/C). How do i get it working on current OS itself... |

Re: which vid card is suited to my system
The hardware acceleration setting are in the display properties / settings tab / advanced button / troubleshooting tab. You can mess around with it to see if it does anything. You can also try the compatibility settings which you right click the game icon and hit properties , then the compatibility tab , and try different os's.
