Which video card

So, i read the sticky thread by ebackhus, but there it still something i dont fully understand.

I suppose that this is a piece on cake for you guys.

My videocard (GeForece 8600 SPARKLE SF-PX86GTS512D3-HP 512mb) broke a week ago, and i have to buy a new one. My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-G31MX-S2, and in the usersmanual there just stood PCI-Express x16. I would like a Geforce 9800 or something like that, but it says PCI-Express 2.0 x16.
Is it possible to run a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 Video card on my motherboard?

Re: Which video card

It's works meaning it's backward compatible but the performance of the card decreases.
