Stuttering While in game, possible mobo/psu failure
Hey there, I'm experiencing stuttering while I play any game, the game and audio freeze up, and the audio loops, for a second and it only seems to happen when something in the game happens, I.E. object moves. Now I know as a matter of fact that it is not my Graphics card or RAM, I placed my dads ram and graphics card in the computer and the problem still persisted. It is not software related because I had the problem, formatted, reinstalled windows and the problem is still there and I have tried different drivers. I am thinking either a bus on my mobo is damaged or my psu is failing, the only reason I believe it to be the psu is now I am now experiencing artifacting. Overheating is not an issue. And I'm 99% sure its not my cpu. Only thing is I have run many tests on the computer and they say everthing checks out, gpu, vram, ram, cpu, all that stuff.
My specs are: Windows XP SP3 Q9450 Quad core CPU @ 2.66ghz XFX 9600GT XXX Asus P-5ND Mobo Mushkin 2GB ram 1066mhz (yes my mobo is incompatible with this ram but I managed to dumb it down to 800mhz and no that is not the problem) Powertek skytek 600W PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817713004 By speedfan's readings, my idle voltages are: vcore1 ~ 1.28V vcore2 ~ 3.23V +3.3V - 0.00V +5V ~ 5.08V +12V ~ 12.54V -12V ~ -17V -5V ~ -6V +5V ~ 5V VBat ~ 3.15V one thing is that when I put my PSU under load the -5V jumps to about -10V and whether this is normal or not I couldn't say But my computer is not itself and I'd like to know what is going on so if you have even the slightest idea please feel free to post it. Thanks in advance |

Re: Stuttering While in game, possible mobo/psu failure
Those readings are not correct, check them in the Bois on the Health page.
Artifacts are usually caused by ram going bad or heat on the video card, but can be power related. What are you seeing for cpu and gpu temps? |

Re: Stuttering While in game, possible mobo/psu failure
For temperatures, everything across the board is idling under 50C, gpu doesn't hit above 75C under load and I've never even seen my cpu hit 60C. I understand what usually causes artifacting is heat but it's never been a problem before ( I use arctic silver) really this all started when I ran into a hard drive problem, a bad sector formed where XP was installed so the OS became extremely unstable and I was forced to format, then I noticed the stuttering, formatted again and it is still there. Also, I am not sure what/where the health page is and how I would go about checking my bios.

Press Delete while booting> On the Power Tab Select Hardware monitoring there you will find the voltages listed The CPU & MB temps.

Re: Stuttering While in game, possible mobo/psu failure
Oh, I thought you meant a page on this website, no I know how to get into the bios
Alrighty, I noticed something and I believe my believe my bios to be partially retarded, you'll see why in a second. all voltages set to auto, including vcore Vcore- 1.28 3.3V- 3.21V 5V - 5.08V 12V - 14.48V MB temp - 36 degree C CPU Temp - 53 degree C now, vcore set to 1.306...V, actually 1.26V and vcore set to 1.30000V actually 1.24V Whats up with that? |

Re: Stuttering While in game, possible mobo/psu failure
12v @ 14.48 would be a bigger concern and overpower the rest if correct.
Do you have access to a digital volt meter? > Test your power supply with a multi meter |

Re: Stuttering While in game, possible mobo/psu failure
Is the CPU temp reading 53c?
That should be lower. The Vcore can vary your earlier readings were different between the cores, Do you have EIST enabled? |

Check the heat sink is tight, if the fan is not set to auto turn the speed up or you may want to redo the thermal paste.

Re: Stuttering While in game, possible mobo/psu failure
Alrighty, well I have solved the artifacting issue but that still leaves the primary problem of the stuttering. It seems that I am stuttering outside of games and in the games, outside of games, I receive just a momentary pause. In game, it(the game) pauses for a second and the audio loops. Now I have been up and down the web but that didn't really help. It is not my video RAM or RAM but I am not saying it isn't RAM related. I have put in my dads 8800gtx and his RAM into my computer but the stuttering persisted. I have run memtest but came up with nothing. What I haven't done is put in his CPU, but to do that I'd have to take out my whole mobo which is a pain in the bottom to do. So again, back to my original problem, the stuttering. Any Ideas?

Re: Stuttering While in game, possible mobo/psu failure
Alright, well it looks as though this thread can be closed (or deleted if you want as I see it serving no purpose to anybody) as my mobo decided yesterday it had had enough (not buying asus again) and proceeded to stop working, so I'm going to at some point pick up an EVGA.

Re: Stuttering While in game, possible mobo/psu failure
Well, I know this is an incredibly old post but I have resolved the problem. As you know I have been without my pc since feb. when the mobo died and finally got it ordered and in a few days ago. The stuttering persisted but one of my friends suggested that it may be the hard drive... sure enough it was. I ran the diagnostic software, it found some problems, fixed them and everything has been running smoothly since then. In the way of temp. 50c is a warm idle but its a quad and they run warm. I looked around and most people with the q9450 reported the same temps. I've also got it up to 3.0ghz which is why it idles as warm as it does.
