Is the 9800 GTX+ sufficent for my needs?
I am building a budget gaming computer and I have picked the 9800 GTX+ from Nvidia to meet my needs. I am going to be using the computer for RTS games like Age of Empires III and the latest Settlers game. Please give advise and personal experience if possible plus links. P.S. I have 24" monitor that runs 1920 by 1200 if that counts for anything. I am most likely going to pair this card with a Intel quad core (Q6600 or Q8200) or AMD's Phemon II X4 920.

Re: Is the 9800 GTX+ sufficent for my needs?
a 9800GTX+ is completely over the top. For those games a 7800gt would be sufficient but if your thinking of playing newer games such as Crysis or Farcry 2 then consider a 9800gt which also be sufficient. But unless budget is not a problem steer clear of the 9800GTX+ and save a load of money.

Re: Is the 9800 GTX+ sufficent for my needs?
I can't find a 7800 GTS anywhere perhaps on Ebay or Amazon but I'm not going to buy from there. I don't really want to upgrade that much so that is why I wanted to kick a decent higher end model like the 9800 GTX+. Are there any other suggestions?

Re: Is the 9800 GTX+ sufficent for my needs?
Just a personal thought and preference on your request.
If you are in to gaming, don't shortchange yourself by limiting what you can do with a 7800gts. I would not recommend you purchase anything less than an 8800gts for gaming. Of course, if you purchase this card (7800gts, not a bad card, but not much for gaming IMHO) you can most likely get by with a 550 watt power supply. Be aware, that any gaming card you purchase, it will be necessary to have a power supply to keep up with that card. The 8800gts needs at least a 650 watt of a quality brand name to push that card and the 9800gtx, my recommendation would be at least a 750 watt power supply. Keep these things in mind when you purchase a video card, because the cost of a good video card usually doesn't stop with the video card only. You have to have the power to run it and a good brand name power supply is not cheap.

Re: Is the 9800 GTX+ sufficent for my needs?
just as stated go with a good power supply and READ THE AMP RATINGS on the side, just because it maybe an 800 w power supply it may only say like 18 amps for the 12 volt rail(s) on the side to power the PCI-E video card.
i'm running two 9800gt's in SLI mode and i'm starting to wonder if my 800 w/ 28 amps per 12 volt rail is enough some times. don't settle for LESS then an 8800 gt or better card. like i said i'm running 2 9800gt's in SLI mode and i can push Crysis on high in 4 X anti and hold around 48 FPS in 1900 x 1200 mode. |

Re: Is the 9800 GTX+ sufficent for my needs?
That is more than a nice card, a very, very nice card it is. Just make sure of the power supply issue and that will cost some bucks, but be worth it. Let us know when you get up and running and if you have questions about the power supply, be sure to let one of our Hardware team members guide you in the right direction.

Re: Is the 9800 GTX+ sufficent for my needs?
Yes to your last post Dark. I have the 9800gt and it is pretty good but the gtx+ is still at least 15 percent better in most categories I wish I had got one. Oh well always room for SLI. I say get one or it will be like Peter Griffins soup that got away.
