9800gtx crashing
Hi, recently got myself a new computer (2 days ago) and at first everything was fine, but when i started playing Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 and Gta IV, it would run very smoothly then suddenly crash with no warning. I get square block on screen same as another member of this forum..
LINK Screen stops and sound repeats itself until i hit the reset button.. Once or twice it has crashed to desktop where i have a warning saying that the video driver has crashed but vista has recovered it or something. My specs are... Video: 9800gtx 1gb Case: thermaltake m9 with 430W PSU Mobo: Gigabyte ep45-ds3l Ram: 2X2Gb sticks CPU: intel core 2 quad Q9400 @2.67GHz no overclocking whatso ever I've tried putting the graphics very low and it still happens. I've updated the bios, still happens. I have the lastest Nvidia drivers, but it still happens. And its not a heat issue as i have monitored the temp and it stays around 45 C and i even opened the side and had a desk fan blowing into it and it still crashes. Only thing i can think of is that my PSU cant deliver enough power, but ive seen the same issue with other people with much higher PSU's. I'm most likely getting a 550W tomorrow if thats the case but i dont wanna fork out money if its not that that's the problem. Thanks in advance. Last edited by marty-bett; 02-14-2009 at 09:00 PM. |

Re: 9800gtx crashing
OK, so i went ahead and bought the 650W like you suggested, but, much to my disappointment, it was still crashing, only now, it appears the gfx card is dead or something because it has the rectangles all the time without crashing. As soon as i saw the Vista logo pop up and there was squares everywhere i turned it off and didnt wanna do any more harm to it.
Now I'm going to return the box to the store and ask them *** is going on! Probably set me back another $300 for repair or somehting. Any idea what could be the problem? |

Re: 9800gtx crashing
to turn off the auto reboot
control panel /system/advanced/startup and recovery settings then untick the auto reboot box post any bsod error messages the computer freezes on in full the squares indicate, drivers faulty ram on the card power which you have eliminated in the device manager uninstall the video card reboot tapping f8 and choose safe mode when windows finishes rebooting disable a/virus install your drivers reboot the computer
