Question [SOLVED] XFX 9800GT with Cooler Master 460W?

Hey friends,

I am getting a new xfx 9800gt 512mb DDRIII card soon. I got the CM 460w and just want to know whether it will work for me.

I have googled it and people saying that they are even running a 9800gtx with the CM 460w.

The XFX 9800gt card requires 1x6pin PCIe connector which i have and minimum 400w which is there as well. I think my PSU got 2 12v rails at 18amps.

Will i be able to power up the card anyhow?? I am on budget and the only thing i can afford right now is the card no PSU upgradation for now atleast.

You can try with that PSU but I think you will have more problems than joy :/

You should be somewhere here:

Seasonic S12-650 Watt
Coolermaster Real Power Pro 650 watt
Corsair 650-TX -650 watt

Read this thread first before you decide to do anything else:

My team mate vladimirb has a very valid point. I would not even hesitate to put a 750 in there so you have so head room for future growth. Here is a real steal right now on a PC Power &Cooling 750 watt:

Re: XFX 9800GT with Cooler Master 460W?

Thanks vladimirb and Tumbleweed36 for your replies.

The thing is that some of my friends are using xfx 8800gt on the CM 460w without any trouble. Since everyone say that 9800gt is the 8800gt with a different sticker so i am guessing that it would work. Moreover, my local XFX dealer has assured me that the new card will work smooth. Since i can't go for a PSU upgrade right now i guess ill go with the card and see if my gamble works. then may be later in 2 3 months ill upgrade the PSU as well. I bought this PSU only a couple of month ago!

One more thing, the PSU mentions TWO 12v rail @ 18 amps. So does that mean that i got 36amps on the 12v rail??

Edit:

Quote:
I run a 9800GT with the 390W model from the same eXtreme series, and a 4850 uses just 15-20W more than a 9800GT, so just buy it, plug it in and enjoy.

Re: XFX 9800GT with Cooler Master 460W?

Hope you enjoy it and get lucky so you don't burn up any other components. Ram manufacturer's report that the main reason for failing ram is lack of power from a too weak power supply.

BTW, the only Coolermaster that is recommended is NOT the model you have which is one of their weaker ones. The only Coolermaster which is of a high quality is the "Real Power Pro" model that they offer.

Good luck and I do hope it works for you.

Re: XFX 9800GT with Cooler Master 460W?

i have been running my xfx 9800gt 512mb with the CM460w and everything is perfectly fine. i am also adding 3 X Nidec BetaV 120mm fans through the vacant molex connectors in addition to the 2 80mm fans already connected through 3 pin in mobo. I think you will easily run the 8800gt alpha dog edition.

I hope everything will works fine for you mate...
If you get any freezings or your PC shuts down out of bloom in future,
that will probably be PSU... Adding 3 more fans is more consuming power from PSU also...
Mark this thread as solved...
You have a picture in my signature how to do that...
