Video Card or Power Supply

My computer has been rebooting while doing graphics intense things for a while. I took the side panel off cause i thought overheating, but it didnt help.

A day or two ago, when i go to boot up my computer would boot up but with funny green lines on the screen, then it would reboot before windows has a chance to load.

Now i tried cleaning out the video card fan, and tried it again, this time i forgot to plug the power plug back in to the card. the computer started normally, but with an error message saying that the power was disconnected.

It runs fine with the video card power disconnected, could this be a bad video card or the power supply?

Re: Video Card or Power Supply

What Video card and Power Supply do you have?
To hazard a guess without specs try another PSU.

Re: Video Card or Power Supply

GeForce 7950 GT and 500W Thermaltake P/S

I figure it wont hurt to upgrade the power supply anyways. But i just cant afford to do both. I still have warranty on it but I moved away for school so I cant bring it in to be checked.

Thanks

Re: Video Card or Power Supply

It's a TR2-500. I downloaded and ran CPU ID, and it is saying my graphics card temp is going up into the 70's celcius, i know thats too hot for a cpu, but should it be that high?

Also, the same software says the 12V is at around 11.5V, but using a multimeter i got 12.1V.

When i connected everything back up yesterday, it seems to work fine now, and im trying to get it to fail so i can find the problem.

Re: Video Card or Power Supply

70c isn't too hot for a GPU, If it's shutting off completely under load keep looking at the voltage readings.

Re: Video Card or Power Supply

Its weired because i left the screensaver on and logged the temp and it went up to 79 without any problems. I dont know if its a software issue cause it seems to be working now.

Ill have to really try to push it and see.
