7900gs XXX or 8600gt?

hey guys

I am confused between these 2 cards...i googled it and most people think 7900gs is better than 8600gt.

But i have seen videos on youtube of games like Assassins Creed, Gta4, Far cry 2 etc running gr8 on 8600gt.

i havnt found a good video showing 7900gs running gta4 smoothly...There are more vids of 8600gt than 7900gs so i cant decide...

anyhow which one shud i get? i'll keep this card for atleast 6 months before getting a 8800gt...and i am looking to play latest games with it.

Re: 7900gs XXX or 8600gt?

I wouldn't get either. The 7900 was a great for its time but is pretty old now. And the 8600 is also pretty old aswell , not to powerful either, it performance is roughly a tad slower then my 2600xt (which is also old).

I would wait the 6 months and save up and buy a good card. I also wouldn't bother with the 8800gt as the 9800 gt is only about 120$ currently.

Re: 7900gs XXX or 8600gt?

Gr8 reply...its not about being latest or old...i asked which of these would you recommend suppose if these 2 were your only choice....since i have seen 8600gt playing latest games decently enough ill go for it....

and if i start getting everything new then i would be broke in no time as there are newer processors, mobo, ram, gpus, PSUs n what not as compared to what i have.

Thanks anyways

Re: 7900gs XXX or 8600gt?

Well If I were stuck into chooseing only an 8600 or 7900 I just wouldn't choose either , I would save up for a better card.

Since you have a coolermaster 460w I would at least consider 4670 before those two.

Re: 7900gs XXX or 8600gt?

Budget my friend....i m buying this card so that i can at least play games till i get 8800gt or 4670 or whatever u know...ill save up enough in 6 months for a 4670. After that even if i throw this 8600gt away i would care least... its just a temporary solution as i can't stop gaming.

:)

Re: 7900gs XXX or 8600gt?

The 4670 is about 70$ and an 8600 is about 60 to 70$. If you have enough for an 8600 you should have enough (or very close to enough) for a 4670. It would be best to save the money you have now and get a little more and buy the card you want. Rather then wasteing the money now on a card you don't want , and haveing to spend more in 6 months anyway.

That'll be my recommendation , the 4670 , best bang for the buck.
