PC booting issue > ati hd 4850 x2
First off let me say hello to everyone
, I've lurked on this website before and always had my issues resolved, but alas not today I'm afraid i had to sign up! ![]() Specs: Thermaltake 750W + OCZ 600W PSUs (explanation below ^_^) Asus p5q deluxe ddr2 Motherboard Intel 2.4Ghz quad core CPU Corsair 4Gb ddr2 ram 2 X Seagate 400Gb SATA hdd's (raid0) sapphire redeon 4850x2 2Gb graphics card Issue: Built this PC two weeks ago, knowing it had an inferior power supply after upgrading PSU the PC won't boot at all, unless i remove the 6 pin and 8 pin power connectors from the graphics card but then it just fails post saying no VGU detected (still plugged into the PCI-e slot and 1/2 fans spinning and three LED lights on the card showing me it needs more power). I have tried switching PSUs but the problem persists, i'm going mad trying to figure out what is wrong. I was earthed the whole time and was being quite careful.I have tried booting with only the graphics card and motherboard + cpu installed but it won't do it, reset the CMOS and swapped all the power cables around but still nothing. phoning AMD didn't help either ![]() any help and idea's would be welcome, time to show AMD who is better at support! Re: PC booting issue > ati hd 4850 x2
Thanks for the reply.
I'm not using them both together anymore, i'm just going to go with the 750W PSU now after trying to connect them lol ![]() but even with one PSU it won't boot at all anymore. I've tried both separately and now the 600W one has the mains cable cut (lol). I would just be happy enough with getting the 750W one working with this graphics card and then upgrade to one higher wattage PSU when i need to. i've searched over 50 pages with problems relating to this, and it seems as though i have a hardware problem, but i really cannot see what it could be, unless the card has been screwed from ESD (don't see how this could have happened but i really can't think of any other ideas) |

Re: PC booting issue > ati hd 4850 x2
Hi, I had exactly the same problem as you, I just bought a new P5Q and 3 days after I tried to boot and .... nothing.
I tried to boot without RAM and without VGA and I had even no bip from the mobo. The fans are starting but the screen remain black. After several cheks with Google it seems that there is a lot of problems with this mobo. The only solution I've found is to replace it and buy a Gigabyte and now everything goes well. Do you have bips when you try to boot without memory for instance ? |

Re: PC booting issue > ati hd 4850 x2
No i can get it to boot, but only if the graphics card doesn't have the 8 pin power cable plugged in, and then it will POST and fail the vgu test thing. I'm thinking the graphics card has a faulty 8 pin connector, but can't test it in another machine :(.
i did hear that the p5q is quite unreliable, but only after i bought it unfortunately. is it worth sending the graphics card back to the store to get it checked? if i am wrong they say i'll get a £10 fine :S also, yeah it POSTs every time, with and without other hardware but not with the graphics card Last edited by Snozz; 01-30-2009 at 03:59 AM. |
