VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

PLEASE HELLLLPPPPPP!!! :(

when I watch a movie I downloaded from the web, and scroll it forward (in media player 11 for instance) , suddenly display turns black and a message appears: "digital power saving mode". Then I have to restart!!!
This also happened in VLC player, and in programs like acdsee32 and regedit (but NEVER in mv2 player).

At first I thought it was a codec issue, so I uninstalled cccp codec pack, but the problem persisted.
It doesn't happen with all my vids, just a few...

Oh and I tried messing around with all the options in the "power options", tried different power plans, disabled "turn off display after..." and even disabled screen saver but nothing helps!!!

VERY IMPORTANT to say that this problem does not occur when I connect my old 8800gt, it only started happening ever since I connected my EVGA gtx280.
Further more, when I switched screen res from 1680X1050 to 440X900, the problem was very hard to re-create and only happened randomly in acdsee32 after several hours!
BUT, this problem NEVER happens while I am playing games with my gtx280…
I am baffled!!!

So please help guys!

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

I've narrowed it down to this:
it only happens when using vista aero!!!
why is this?
:(

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

When you install the new card did you remove the driver and reinstall in VGA mode with the Antivirus/malware programs disabled?
What CPU and Power supply do you have?

It's your monitor losing input and going into power save. digital is your input.

What is your hardware configuration?

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

When I installed my gtx 280 I used driver cleaner pro to remove previous drivers if I remember correctly...
But it has nothing to do with the driver because when I connected my old 8800gt 512 (with these exact same drivers) everything was fine...

My specs are:
vista 32 bit +sp1
corsair tx750w psu
Intel core 2 duo e6750 2.66 @ 3.4GHZ
mobo: gigabyte ga-p35c-ds3
ram: 2X1gb Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400C4, 2X1 gb Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-8500C5
gpu: EVGA gtx 280

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

Did you happen to check the voltages when you had the GTX280 in?

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

I set the Vcore in bios to 1.3500.
I am now in HWMonitor and it states:
CPU VCORE: min:1.30 max: 1.31.

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

It only happens in this shitty windows aero!!
I tried downloading themes and stuff but as long as it utilizes this "aero" option, I can always find myself looking at this verry annoying "power saving mode"!!!
Now I am using "windows basic" (instead of aero), and everything's fine!

Wrench means the voltages on your 3.3/5/12VDC power supply lines. Usually given in BIOS.

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

Are you implying that theres a problem with the psu? or voltage settings?
I don't see how this is possible due to the problem only appearing when windows aero is on...

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

I asked what they are I didn't imply anything, when troubleshooting you need to be open minded and rule things out as well as test things, If you don't want to look then don't look.

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

You should have a pc health status page which will list the voltages and temps.

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

There have been serious developments:
I took out the cmos battery and re-seated the ram, turned on pc, turned off, restored bios defaults,

Now what happens is even WORSE!!!!
Power saving mode the SECOND I play a movie (tried only media player 11), and sometimes even a grey or a blue screen (not the normal bsod, but just a blue screen with no writings on it)!

This happens even in 1440X900 and even when windows aero is off (which I thout was causing the problems at first)!!!
I uninstalled nvidia driver (using driver cleaner pro in safe mode) and tried an older one (still problem persists), and then installed back the new driver (still problem persists).
I dont know if I should try re-installing vista because what if the gtx280is casuing these problems? Now I can't even play games!

Re: VERY ANNOYING power saving mode!!!

Yes I loaded optimized defaults.
I think it's time to admit the gtx is damaged because I even formatted my computer and installed windows XP instead of vista but no luck- problem still occurs!

I hope the seller on Ebay won't be a hard *** and understand. But still I don't know the policy of returning items :(
