4870X2 don't boot after changing cooling system
Hi, I’m using a watercooling system since several months for my CPU first but last week I decided to buy a waterblock for my ATI Radeon 4870X2 to reduce the noise.
Here is my system: CPU: Quad core Q6600 RAM: 4 X 1GB Crucial Balistix PSU: Antec True Power 1000 GPU: ATI 4870X2 Motherboard: Asus P5Q-E Watercooling : Swiftech H2O-220 Waterblock : Heath Killer 4870X2 OS: Vista 64 I've installed the waterblock very carefully, there was no thermal pads in the waterblock package despite it should have then I've taken the old pads from the original cooling system except 3 as I didn’t managed to remove them properly and replace them on the waterblock. I’ve therefore replaced the thermal pads by thermal paste on the 2 GPUs and in the one located in middle of the card. Since I did that, it’s now impossible to boot, the screen remain black and I don’t even have access to the BIOS. I have the R570 led (the one on the left of the card) on each time I try to boot. I’ve also tried to put the old air cooling but same problem, impossible to boot with the same led on. I’ve tried different PCIE port, A different mobo ,different memory modules, the problem is the same and my system starts with another GPU. According to what I found in Google R570 LED means GPU2 no power (slave GPU) but I don’t understand how it’s possible. Do you know what’s the point using thermal paste instead of pads ? I put the thermal paste very carefully and only where it should so I don’t understand why the card keeps this led on. Thanks for your help |
