NEED Help!!! Please.

I have a serious problem, and frankly, its starting to baffle me a little. I have to fix this soon or buy another computer.

System specs that I can remember are:
Intel D865PEARL MotherBoard
(NEW) Thermaltake TR2-430W Power Supply
(NEW) ATI Radeon X1650 pro Sapphire – Graphics Card – 512mb of memory.

First: My Computer just went dead one day. I still seemed to switch on, but my box wasn't speaking to the screen. So I checked it out on the Internet, turned out that my particular screen had a bad rep for going dead on people 2 weeks after purchase. So, I figured it was just the screen, and got a new one.... Still didn't work. (However, I think the screen was dead anyway, seeing that it doesn't work on any other computer either).

Second: Thought it might be the Graphics Card, (needed an upgrade anyway, so I decided to get one), they sent me the wrong card at first, but I got the right one today. Still doesn't work.

I get the same thing all the time, power to the screen, but all black. I switch it on, and it goes strait to standby. It says “NO SIGNAL”, as if it's just not detecting anything.

Im praying it's not the video card, but I've tried everything I can think of. The new screen does work on other computers, so its not that. The new video card works on other computers, so it's not faulty. Hard drives have all been checked, jumpers and all (I dont think that makes much difference). Also, just to save from to many stupid questions... yes, everything is plugged in!

I've got new cables, the screen and video card work. My question is simply this... Before I run out and by another computer or motherboard... Am I Missing Anything??? Do I have other options?

Thankyou for taking the time to read this. Any Suggestions at all are more then welcome.

James

My System

Re: NEED Help!!! Please.

Try a bios reset and see what you get. It does seem to be motherboard/cpu/memory related.

HELLO JAMES,
first of all calm down, sweety

I know it can be an emotional moment when your pc let you down..Been there!!!!
Before you buy a new one, check that all the cables are in the right place, well connected to the hardware, cables must not come in contact with any of the components( es:video card, memory sticks, and motherboard). also very important is to check if the mobo is not touching the bottom of the case, motherboards must not have nothin metallic loose that touch it....

After you done the above..
you can try to substitute a new hard disk or if you have done a back up of your files and programs you can reboot the system from scratch so it goes back to that state when you first bought it..
So you really don't need to buy a new one!
Also i suggest that you get an external drive to store all the data.

you said that the hard drive was fine, well the hard drive is the home where the operating system lives, so I think that somehow your window got corrupted perhaps by some programs or software you installed....If you got an installation cd, that's awasome...you can boot it up...Good luck!!! I hope i was helpful, i fell your pain, dude!!!

Re: NEED Help!!! Please.

lol... Im a video editor, I have to get it running, its hard enough to FIND jobs, let alone get them done, and I cant do that when my computer is sitting there dead. :)

However, I've gone over every cable I could find, and replaced a lot of them (just in case), I jiggled the display card and other boards to make sure they were secure as well.

I have 2 HD's with operating systems installed on them, one as a back up in case something like this would ever happen, I'm not too worried about losing data... I have a large 500gb exterior that I backed up most of my work on a few weeks ago. So I'm good on that front. Oh, and I've tried booting up from both hd's with no success.

I dont think it's the HD anyway, if it was, it still doesn't explain why I can't get into bio's. I dont get anything on the screen, I switch it on, it says "NO SIGNAL" and then goes strait to standby. If it was a hard drive problem, or with the operating system, I would still be able to see something, even it it was just an error message saying "Cant find bootable disk".

It just totally baffles me... I dont know what else to try.

To Emosun:
I reset bio's as you said, I first tried reseting the jumpers, and then tried removing the CMOS battery entirely. Still no success.

Re: NEED Help!!! Please.

Did you have any messages on the screen before it went dead?
System32\confi\sytem file missing or corrupted
NTLDR is missing

If so it is a possibility that window start up file is corrupted...

Also check the power supply, PSU.

But if window XP itself it is seriously corrupted, the only chance you got is to boot up the system as i told you before....

The last thing if you do not find out what the problem is you can always take the case to a PC store and check with the techs guys.....All the Best!
