Game crashes , bad gpu ? pls help

Hi maybe someone can help me here i have a big problem
bought new components for my computer and started building,
components are :
Mobo: Gigabyte EP45-DS3L
CPU : 3Ghz intel core2 duo E8400
Memory : DDR2 OCZ reaper 2X2
GPU : Asus EAH4870 512mb
Power supply : 650 watts

took a while to get the components running at first but now in windows all seems fine until i started world of warcraft , worked great for say 5 minutes or so then the game crashed due to some fatal error.(sometimes it even rebooted my cpu) so i thought maybe old drivers. downloaded new ones and tried again with the same results . after that i tried unreal tournament 3 since i thought maybe wow didnt like my gpu but about 10 minutes in the game the screen froze and kicked me out to windows

could this be a faulty GPU ? would be glad if someone could help me locate the problem here

thanx in advance

Re: Game crashes , bad gpu ? pls help

Hmm, yeah thats not a good unit. Even on there own website they don't say the efficientcy or the amps on the rails. lol. They also don't show any pictures of the sticker on the power supply which would show the amperage and efficiency.

http://www.spirecoolers.com/main/pro...asp?ProdID=698

Nor could I find it on any other site. Safe to say unless the unit has 80% efficiency and 26 amps on the 12v rail then thats your problem.

Re: Game crashes , bad gpu ? pls help

Yea that isn't enough amps on the 12v rails , needs at least to be 26. It didn't happen to say the efficientcy also did it?

Last thing before we say it's the power supply , download speedfan and check your voltages and temperatures and post them here.

Re: Game crashes , bad gpu ? pls help

if your spec is right then your computer should not be running at all with +12V at 1.22v and the -12V at 16.80v it should blowup ,if it right you better get a new PSU fast

Re: Game crashes , bad gpu ? pls help

your +12V should be like this 12.35 or.25 or something like that and -16.80v is way out of wack so is -5V at 8.48v are you getting them from the BIOS?

spec = specification

a good PSU should be £90 your one here the uk is £45
soz w8 you got stuffed

Re: Game crashes , bad gpu ? pls help

ok let computer run for some time ,then do a reboot and press F2 or del key to get in BIOS and get the right spec from there ,then post

PS thing to look for on a PSU box are 650W 1 12V rail with 40A or more and 80 plus or 80%

Vcore=1.236V DDR18V=1.984V +3.3V=3.328V and +12V wich is flashing between 12.048V and 12.112V .

Re: Game crashes , bad gpu ? pls help

Hey agian , i tried to run UT3 today , and like before it crashed so i went to check the Catalyst control center check the temp on the GPU and it was at 72 degrees celsius!!!

the GPU clock was set to default settings then (750mhz)
and i set it down to 530mhz to see if it made any difference.
temp went dow a bit but not much (65 degrees) thats 65 degrees in windows XP

what to do ?

Could it be the GPU overheating thats the problem ??

need help pls

thx again for helping me
