Game lags after 15 minutes playing
Heya guys, I recently bought Grand theft auto 4 and after around 15 to 30 minutes of playing, it starts lagging extremely. Like it takes me 10 minutes to find and click "exit"
Oh and also. I've been getting the Blue screen of death more frequently lately, which randomly results in my monitor not turning on when I restart. Any help would be appreciated AMD Athlon 64x2 6000+ Asus M3N78 PRO 3582 MB ram NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GTX+ |

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
this sounds like a power supply or overheating problem, try dusting out your pc with compressed air.

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
Could also be faulty RAM, check your RAM voltages and timings in the BIOS.
Also try downloading memtest86+, boot from that CD and leave it to run overnight, will tell you if theres any problems. What is the error message on the BSOD? |

Also, don't be so sure about the dust, I air dust my fans every 3 weeks to keep them running in optimal condition, they suck in an incredible amount of crap. |

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
Hmm, well I stand corrected. haha...but I'm not sure what it said, the last time it happened my friend was on it. And it seems to happen only when I am recording music through a resource hungry program

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
Well, the error message on that Blue Screen is the ticket to solving your problem, or at least a step on the way to it, so try and provoke another one and write down the error.
Make sure your computer is not set to automatic restart on a BSOD,otherwise it will only flash up for a millisecond, that option is somewhere in the control panel. |

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
Contol panel -> system -> advanced tab -> In Startup and Recovery - click settings -> uncheck automatically restart.
edit - check video card temps with gpu-z http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
ok so here is the blue screen of death....didn't try to provoke it BUT, I was playing a different game Call of duty World at War, and it all plays fine but this is the second time I went to exit the game and it did this. By the way. Every game I have plays fine on my system, EXCEPT for Grand theft auto 4. I think Rockstar screwed the pc players because I did some research and I'm among literally thousands that have the exact same problem...Anyways, here is the picture
Oh yea. The only way I get my monitor to recieve a signal when I restart my computer AFTER the blue screen is by unplugging the power supply from the back and plugging it back it, I figured that would be useful Info.

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
This is the cause, and solution to your problem .
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842465. Hope this works. Method 3 looks the most likely culprit, to do with the PSU, dust, temperatures etc. What is your PSU? Brand, wattage, output on 12v Rail? (get this information by looking at the unit inside your computer case). Also, what are the temperatures of your CPU and GPU? Last edited by CLAY_JoE; 01-17-2009 at 09:49 AM. |

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
seems you're X2 isn't getting enough A on the 12v rail, You should be getting around 25 for a real psu seems to be some knockoff brand, Careful next time Though I would highly recommend the Corsair TX-650 It's done me well for the time I had it...

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
Agree with above post. 18AMps on 12V rail is way nt enough for your system. You need at least 26 AMPs.

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
dude...are you freaking serious....why the hell would they even sell that thing then....
So basically, the reason i'm getting a blue screen is i'm not getting enough power through to the cpu? |

Re: Game lags after 15 minutes playing
The Corsair 650TX is the best in it's class. And that is an amazing price on it too, can't recall ever seeing it that low.
