[SOLVED] DDR2 or DDR3 video memory?

I have the XFX nForce 680i LT SLI Motherboard(OEM). My CPU is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600. The board runs at 1333MHz and the CPU at 1066MHz. Memory for the board is 800MHz DDR2. The question I have is, does the memory on the video card have to be DDR2? or can it be DDR3? I want to run it in SLI mode for better picture during media and game play. I am self taught so I don't know about a lot about computers when it comes to matching components. Any advice or suggestions are welcomed.

It doesn't matter, they are different types of memory, and not linked in that fashion. Video ram should be more properly labeled GDDR3 etc. to avoid some confusion, but not all manufacturer's do. If they were linked it would be kind of tough finding a system to run something like the HD 4870 with it's GDDR5 eh.
