PCI 2.0 in PCIe slot
run a dual boot ( two hard drives ) XP SP 3 / Vista Business system, details below
Intel Pentium 4 3Gig Processor 2Gig RAM 2 DVD burners GEForce 7950 GT Graphics Card Intel D915GAG Motherboard with most recent BIOS update. I hope that this is enough to get an answer. I want to upgrade the Graphics card to a GEforce 8800GT which is a PCI 2.0 item, to improve the performance on the latest games. I can run Crysis and Crysis Warhead ( just acceptably!), Red Alert 3 seems reasonable, though I'm not too far into it yet, TR Anniversary is acceptable ( just), but TR Underworld is hopeless, it's choppy, stops for a time and is generally unplayable .It is worse on Vista Business , it won't go past the opening basic Croft Manor level ,it gives an error that relates to nvd3dum.dll and shuts down however it does work ,in a fashion, on XP. I have installed the most up to date Nvidia drivers for both OS . The big question is will he PCI 2.0 card work properly in my PCI E slot and could I expect to get much improved performance from all the games or would I be wasting time and money ? |

Re: PCI 2.0 in PCIe slot
as long as you do not have a VIA chipset (which intel board shouldnt) they are all backwards/forwards/sideways/upside-down compatiable. :P
