Disabling onboard video to install new AGP video card

Installing GeForce 7600 GS in E Machines T3302, with Win XP. Previously upgraded a PCI card in a different E Machines machine with Win 98, and remember having to disable the on board video. Do not remember what I had to do to disable. Do I need to disable with Win XP, and, if so, how do I disable it?

Re: Disabling onboard video to install new AGP video card

You need to do this:
Take out your new card if you have put it in.

Get the onboard working as you boot up.

Go to the device manager (Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Display Adapter)

Disable the present onboard (right click and disable).

Shut down and insert your new card.

Boot up and enter the bios setup menu and make sure the onboard is not the default card in the bios.

Reboot and when it comes up, then install your new drivers.
That should get you going.

Can't find anything in BIOS setup about AGP-PCI. Where should I look?

NOt There. Go to your desktop then follow the 3rd instruction of tumbleweed. Then If it still does not work Go to the bios and find the display adapter config and enable VGA mode

Re: Disabling onboard video to install new AGP video card

Sorry for not getting back, have been without internet service since yesterday.

The item should be in the advanced area of the bios in most instances.
