Grafical failure makes computer completely freeze
Hi there, as described I have a problem with my vga card. The problem is as follows:
Sometimes (mostly) when I launch a (almost any) game, the game runs fine for as much as perhaps ten minutes, after which the grafics start to 'fail' - it is as if the grafics start to flicker, this often starts out pretty softly, sometimes barely notable. But quickly it gets worse, and often in a matter of seconds the entire system has frozen, and I am unable to do ANYTHING AT ALL WHATSOEVER, other than simply pressing the reset button on my tower (that i fortunately have) and reboot. The weird thing is that after thát one reboot the computer will work just fine, without any complaint and run everything just great. I have upgraded my vga drivers as high as I can, but to no avail - it still happens. I have tried searching for others with the same problem, but found little to nothing. I hope i can get some help here. If I can't fix it here, I'll buy a new vga card, as I'm pretty tired of this. Hope you can help, and thanks in advance, /error. here's my system (the important part, i believe) PC: Operativ System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OS Service Pack Service Pack 3 DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c) Motherboard: CPU Type Unknown, 2666 MHz (16 x 167) Motherboard Navn Ukendt Motherboard Chipset Ukendt System Hukommelse 2048 MB BIOS Type AMI (12/12/07) Kommunikations Port Kommunikationsport (COM1) Grafikkort: Grafikkort Radeon X1950 Pro Secondary (512 MB) Grafikkort Radeon X1950 Pro (512 MB) Skćrm AOC Spectrum 9Glr(A)/9Glrs(A) [19" CRT] (1252610774) Multimedie: Lydkort Realtek HD Audio output |

Re: Grafical failure makes computer completely freeze
that is quite an odd problem. Rarely do i see an issue which is rectified by a single reboot. However, my first flag of concern would be power. The x1950 is a very capable graphics card. Do you know what brand of power supply is in your computer?

Re: Grafical failure makes computer completely freeze
hi,
i'm having the exact same problem too since about three weeks, and your post is the first one that describes exactly what's been happening to me. i've reinstalled my operating system, checked my memories and cpu and both of the components are intact. actually i've been suspecting it is a problem of power too. matter of fact before this problem started to happen i had had other small issues - my USB mouse disconnects sporadically then reconnects itself. this problem has been there since a long time, before and after i bought a new mouse. ever since then i have wanted to change my puny 400W PSU but never got the chance (translation - money) to do that. and now i'm going to do that for sure. i'll get a new one tomorrow and see if the problem disappears, and will post my result here. spec: Operating System: xp64sp2 CPU: Intel C2D E6750 Memory: 4GB Graphic Card: eVGA GeForce 8800GT SSC Motherboard: MSI P6N SLi Platinum Computer Case: a black one
