Bottlenecking On A 4850

Hi guys,
I have a problem. For crimbo i was given a sapphire radeon hd 4850
Only problem is, i have a single core pc. The performance change from my old Nvidia 7300LE was barely noticeable. For a bit I thought I hadn't set it up correctly; the fps rate i got in my test game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, was in the low 20s, and it should have been significantly higher. Whenever i check the task manager, the cpu usage is at 100%. So all signs point to me needing a dual core cpu. The problem is, i have approximately no budget. So my question is this; is my cpu bottlenecking my card? If so, would a Core 2 Duo E2180 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-E2180-...0&sr=8-1)solve the problem? And in the mean time, is there anything i can do to improve the performance? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and sorry if i've posted this in the wrong place, but i'm new to forums in general

My Rig
Sapphire Radeon HD 4850
2.5 gb DDR2 RAM
Intel Celeron D 3.33ghz (Socket 775)
160gb Generic Hard Drive
500w Thermaltake PSU

NB
Tested the card on Half Life 2 and Red Orchestra. Framerate wasn't nearly as high as i expected, with the low being mid teens, and the high never exceeding 40. The mobo i've got is a foxconn mobo, with an LGA775 socket

Re: Bottlenecking On A 4850

The Celeron will definitely hold the card back, and a 500w PSU is also a little small.
The E2180 is a Pentium Dual Core not a Core 2 Duo.
What Model Foxonn motherboard do you have?

Something like an E6xxx or e8xxx is what i've be looking for, for a serious performance jump.

PCI-E requires 26 amps at 12 volts. That's a 650W PSU.

Re: Bottlenecking On A 4850

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/produc...D=en-us0000243 i think is the approx model of my mobo
On the sapphire website they said the card required 450w, so surely 500 is enough
Something I forgot to mention... i am on an EXTREME budget

If not the E2180, how about this one?

Re: Bottlenecking On A 4850

For a CPU upgrade you need to know the exact model number to looh at the cpu compatibility list to ensure you get a cpu that works with the Chip set and Bios D/L Everset lets see if that will tell you the model number> http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...oad-16369.html

On the power supply have a read through our power supply sticky the link is in my signature.

i checked on the foxconn website before and under compatible cpu's it had "Core 2 Duo" as well as Pentium Dual core, so i know that any dual core cpu will work with it. Is there any chance that there is something else that is causing poor performance, other than bottlenecking?

Re: Bottlenecking On A 4850

No that is not correct when the motherboard specs were written (which ever model it is you have) C2D that were out then might have worked but the ones out now may not.
If you can't provide the information requested there isn't much we can do to help you.
