Need some opinions ( video card / PSU)

Hello, I currently have a emachines t5230 [ http://www.e4me.com/products/products.html?prod=T5230 ] Pretty much everything is default besides it has 2gb of ram (upped from 1gb). I'm in the market for a new video card for it, and I know with that I'll need a new PSU (the stock one is only a 300w).

One card I'll looking at is:
MSI N9800GT 512OC
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127387

PSU:
COOLMAX CU-700B
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=10009048

My biggest concern is what will fit in the cases of this tower and what won't (mainly for the PSU).

Does anyone know any stories or have any experiences with these 2 items?

This comp really only gets used for a couple games, but I don't want to be bogged down by graphics.

One this I am on a sort of tight budget right now, so I'm trying to get a decent card/psu with out breaking the checkbook.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to tsf.

The parts you've chosen with technically work with eachother and the machine. But the powersupply isn't a very good brand. If you want better graphics then your onboard 6150 and you want to save money we could put somthing together that will work for you and be a little more reliable and cost less. Please post your total budget.

Thanks for the welcome! :) Yeah I was doing some research on that psu, starting to look into OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341010 ] now. Knowing it isn't modular but seems to have good reviews.

Budget is about 200, I'd like to stay lower if I can.

Re: Need some opinions ( video card / PSU)

Here is a better price on the 9800.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130380

But for a 9800 you will need a 650w or higher powersupply. You could also consider a 9600 , not quite as fast as a 9800 but much cheaper and only require 550w or higher. And would still be miles ahead of the onboard.

Does look like a pretty nice card. But what do you think of a PSU? I don't need any fancy lighting or anything such as that, just raw power is what I'm after.

PCI-E requires 26 amps at 12 volts. That's a 650W PSU.

Re: Need some opinions ( video card / PSU)

Also, I'm sort of confused on the PCI-e & PCI-e 2.0, whats the difference between 2.0 and 1.0?

Re: Need some opinions ( video card / PSU)

2.0 is a faster bus then 1.0. If you have a 2.0 card and mobo the speed the data transfers between the two is faster then 1.0. However 2.0 cards and boards are backward compatible with 1.0. So a 2.0 card will work in a 1.0 slot and vise versa.

In todays computers this difference really only shows a 15 to 20% speed differenece between 1.0 and 2.0. The only known conflict so far is VIA chipsets needing bios updates to support specific pci-e 2.0 cards.

So I will be able to run a 2.0 in my computer then?
