Ati -> HDTV

hi, ive recently invested in a LG Scarlet 32inch tv, and i wanted to hook up my pc to it, which, so far ive been successful. when trying S-Video, the picture came out really bad, so i switched to using a s-video to HDTV adapter, which is running ok.

the only problem is, i cant switch back to my pc monitor without restarting the comp with the tv unplugged. it transfers fine to the tv, but when transferring back to the comp screen, it says the resolution and Hz is to high ( even if i turn it on minimum before trying to change it back.

Some info -

my G-card is an Ati x1650 512mb
im currently using Catalyst control to switch between monitor and tv, by dragging the tv over the monitor and selecting "Swap Device".

if any other info is needed i will supply, alhough i feel the reason its not working is because im going about it all wrong. i just cant seem to find any info on the net about it ><

Thank you in advanced.

Update - when i try to enable the second monitor option in the CC, it resets after about 1 second.

Re: Ati -> HDTV

the best choice with TV's is to use the hgihest connection possible. Usually VGA, HDMI, or component.

Re: Ati -> HDTV

rather then switching monitors, i heard its possible to have the tv as an extended desktop? the problem is neither xp -> prefernces allows me to do so, neither does the catalyst.

i would be willing to fork out for a HMDI>HDTV cable if i could get it to work.

i think ive pinpointed my problem - CC wont let me enable secondary display at all.

Re: Ati -> HDTV

The 1650 is a dual head card right (I'm not an ATi person to know)?

Did the gfx card come with a 7 pin to component adapter? I would try and see if that works if so.

Re: Ati -> HDTV

yeah that's what im currently using. sry dont knwo technical terms for hardware so i said s-video -> hdtv before, but im using the 7 pin adapter.

i actually got 2 with it, one goes to red, green and blue, which im using

the other goes to alot of different output, including basic male jack for video only.

maybe its just time to get a new rig.

Thanks for your fast replies and trying to help me tho, its really appreciated.

Re: Ati -> HDTV

the component (yPbPr) should link up to your TV just fine, as long as you have red to red, blue to blue, green to green..

I just checked AMD's website, it's definately a dual head card. You should be able to have your monitor on DVI and TV on component and work properly.

Re: Ati -> HDTV

Catalyst Control Center does have features for TVs. You need to switch to advanced mode and not view it in basic to begin with. On top there would be a button called "View". Click it to open the menu and select "Advanced View". Out of the side list that should be larger now select "Display Options". Now check "Force Component Video Detection" and "Force TV Detect". Now out of the side list select "Displays Manager" and click on "Detect Displays". Your TV should be recognized now and the settings should be able to be set appropriately to allow it to be used as you wish. You can switch the Desktop Mode in the Displays Manager as well. Hope that helps.

Re: Ati -> HDTV

thanks for the advise guys, but im really sorry i shouldve been alot more clear on my end. basically i CAN detect my t.v, and i can "swap" my monitor to my tv, but the problem is when i switch it to my hdtv, then try to switch back to my monitor, my monitor displays "out of resolution range" and i have to restart my pc to get it back onto that.

one solution i found was to have my tv set up as an extended desktop, but when i try to activate the second display in the CC, the screen flashes black once, then it returns to deactivated.

Screen =

so when i right click on the box with the number 2 inside, and select enable, it instantly disables itself again.

any thoughts?
