[SOLVED] radoen hd 4670 installation problem
I am upgrading from a radeon x800 pci-e to a an hd 4670 pci-e and I'm having the exact same problem a previous user had (DLE38119). That is that once I install the card and boot up the system, upon reaching my desktop screen, it responds with a BSOD and the system starts rebooting before I can get any info off the screen. The cycle continues to occur until I power off the system. I reinstalled the x800 and then it works fine. My motherboard is different than the previous user, it is an intel augsburg but the situation is exactly the same. Could you please elaborate on what the solution was for the previous user it would be really appreciated. I also sent an e-mail to DLE38119 and hopefully he will respond as well.
Thank you in advance. |

Re: Radoen HD 4670 installation problem
First off, I would like to say that most of what I did, I got from the instructions of DAI. If he does not mind, I am going to rewrite his instructions and add a little bit to them for clarification. By no means am I trying to take any credit from DAI. He was a great help in helping me resolve my problem. Make sure that you have a large enough power supply. I am running an older motherboard that needed those type of connections with more power. So I upgraded my power supply from 300 watts to an Ultra LSP 750 pro with 750 watts of power. Then also , I remember reading somewhere that you need at least 1GB of main memory. I maxed mine out at 2GB.
1. Bring up your system into BIOS. 2. If possible set you system to to detect PCIE first. 3. Set the display to VGA mode. 4. Save and Exit from BIOS 5. With your pc up and running with the original video card and drivers still installed, go to your control panel and select performance and maintenance. 6. Then select System. 7. Next select System Properties. 8. On the System Properties pannel select the Hardware Tab. 9. Then click on the Device Manager Button. 10. Look on the list for Display Adapters. 11. Right Click on your display adapter. 12. Click on uninstall. 13. Now shut down your computer as normal. 14. Power off both PC and Monitor. 15. Install the new video card. 16. Power up monitor and PC. 17. Bring your system up in Safe Mode. 18. Install your drivers for the new video card. 19. Go back into the Device Manager and make sure that your new video card is installed. 20. Reboot your PC once again. 21. You should now be able to run using your new video card. I hope this will work as well for you as it did for me. BTW, the best way to get in touch with me is via email. My schedule usually keeps me fairly busy most of the time and I don't get a chance to visit the forum as much as I would like to do so. Last edited by DLE38119; 12-13-2008 at 09:45 PM. Reason: I accidently copied "solved" in the title while replying to your post. |
