virtual screen resolution

Is there a way to have a virtual screen resolution higher than the one supported by my hardware ?

Similar to "Virtual xdim ydim" xorg.conf parameter on Linux.

I run my monitor (native 1280x1024) at 1280x720, 1280x1024, and 1920x1080 at different times depending on what i'm doing, if that's your question.

use rivatuner or ntune to add custom resolution.

My video card is not NVIDIA, so ntune/rivatuner won't help. I do know that it can be done in some drivers, but my question was - can it be done in a hardware independent way.

simple answer: no.

what gfx adapter do you have? ATi or Intel? ATi CCC can also do custom res. Intel has limits.

Well... it's complicated :) It's a virtual driver - I'm running Windows under VirtualBox...

okay. That still isn't a big problem. You can cut up the monitor driver and add custom resolutions via it i believe, just like in lunix/unix.

I'd need somebody to confirm that, then this thread could be moved to driver support.
