3D=Display freeze
I've tried to pinpoint my problem, but hit finally teal-wall, and hence trying to get some advice. Perhaps even get confirmation what can be wrong. Also allow me to place an apologise for my english skills. I am not native. Also I am "average" computer user, meaning I am not quite hardware specialist. So you can easily place me amongst "silly home-user" category. ;) The problem is as follows. The short version : Regardless, of 3D rendering method (OpenGL/Direx 9 or now 10) - launching anything 3D would cause display freeze. * HDD light goes off and stays off * Monitor will NOT lose signal. If I go watch TV for few hours, the display would still show me time-warped and frozen image. * Videos/sound - even launching 2-3 resource demaning programs do not freeze system (can run PS CS3 and watch movie, play winamp etc) * DXdiag claims there's no problems * Drivers/BIOS/chip etc drivers should be up to date. * No viruses detected by Nod32 *On box (it's one of those gamer's boxes that let you monitor hardware on displays on the box) - it claims all temperatures (MB/CPU/GPU)be and stay on reasonable level. *When I launch my test program (I've used games, little random 3d clips) also on windowed mode - the Asus probe claims all stats be normal level. *I suspected PSU, so I tried this all with much more powerful PSU, no change. But for now I am back for my "normal" one which is 400W. I've tried it also with just MoBO, GPU, 1 sata HDD - no change. *I tried alternate graphics card - while it didnt freeze immediately, the hang up did come eventually. *I cannot blame OS - as the problem was there also on XP SP2. Upgrading to Vista (SP1) did allow freezes appear much lesser. Now past week not even vista magic aids me. * I've tried to play with RAM sticks - no luck. 3D=freeze * GPU fans cannot be on blame - as there's none. Yup, it's one of those passive cooling cards. Diagnostics claim it's not overheating, as well trying extra cooling on box doesnt affect the freeze. * There are nothing on Eventlogs under Vista, there's never been a BSOD (else, it would be easy for me to pinpoint the issue, as BoSD's hint-reading has never been problem for me). It might be even if I log to a MMORPG - I keep staying online after system freeze, or messengers register me offline, after I press "restart". This last has not been tested to 100% confirmation yet though, but there's hints towards such behaviour. I do not know where else to look. Is my 7600 GT dead, or something else dead or it's something my blonde-brain is missing? More then just blunt buying new computer, I am more just intrigued of what is the root of such cause. ![]() OS: Windows Vista™ Home Basic (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612) BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, ~2.2GHz Memory: 510MB RAM (currently running on 1 stick as removed others for testing) Page File: 562MB used, 1440MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 10 DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 6.00.6001.18000 32bit Unicode Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: Enum\PCI VEN_10DE&DEV_0391&SUBSYS_34271458&REV_A1 Display Memory: 184 MB Dedicated Memory: 120 MB Shared Memory: 64 MB Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz) Monitor: SyncMaster 206BW,SyncMaster Magic CX206BW(Digital) Driver Version: 7.15.0011.7824 (English) DDI Version: 10 Driver Date/Size: 10/7/2008 13:33:00, 5963776 bytes Dvay. Re: 3D=Display freeze
Thank you for reply.
Well, as I said I did try it with more powerful PSU, and as it gave no change, I went back to the one now. But out of curiousity. Can PSU alone just lock out 3D entirely ? Even, when its minimum hardware it's running? While videos etc etc work smooth? Just learning here :) I am not sure was it data you asked; * NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT * AMD Athlon 64 3500+ * Asus A8N-E * 1024 MB RAM * 400w - it comes with the case, so carries same name as box "COLORSit" If I moniter power it shows as follows : vcore - 1.10 to 1.5 3.3 - 3.31 5.0 - 4.95 12.00 - 11.97 Temps shown as : CPU: 22C MB: 25C Mhm, and seems Bios update has enabled AMD's cool and quet thing, is this good or bad ?
