A woman in my neighborhood is selling an Acer AL1716b lcd monitor. When it's connected to a computer, the monitor shows a black column on the left, covering about a quarter of the screen, a white column, a black column and then a white column on the right, about half the thickness of the other three columns.
There's also a blue line that runs horizontally across the middle of the screen, about half an inch thick. Its on Ebay, currently at 99 cents. She said I can pick it up, so no shipping charge. The question is can I repair this monitor? The screen is in good shape. Can I replace the guts from another monitor? I know there's an inverter and a backlight and that's the extent of my knowledge of lcd monitors so far. I built a notebook computer from 4 supposedly dead notebooks and that went well. Last weekend I brought a Kodak camera back to life by installing a screen from another camera that had a lense error. Now I have a working camera So I have the skills to disassemble electronic gadgets. If you would like to see the picture, the item number is 290281954060. The auction is ending soon, December 13th at 1 in the morning. Thank you for your suggestions! |

Re: Can I fix an Acer lcd monitor that shows black and white columns?
I'm not sure where you would get an Inverter or a replacement screen for it and most likely a new 17" wide screen would be cheaper then the parts to fix it.
