Radeon HD 4870 Hang on downsize/upsize
Hello, I just received my new Asus Radeon HD 4870 today, and installed the latest 8.12 drivers. Everything seems to be fine, smooth performance in games. However, when I downsize from any game such as world of warcraft or left 4 dead, it will hang for a moment before it loads my game or desktop. It does this on both downsize and upsize.
Do you guys think this may be the new drivers? Or something completely different? Anyways, any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Edit: I'm running xp sp3, 4 gigs of ram, amd 2.8ghz dual core. |

Re: Radeon HD 4870 Hang on downsize/upsize
I just installed the 8.11 drivers but still the same thing. I guess this isn't that big of a problem, I just want to make sure nothing is not working properly or something.
If I put WoW in windowed mode maximized I can switch between desktop / game quickly with no hang. |

Re: Radeon HD 4870 Hang on downsize/upsize
Do not expect to get good timing going ebtween desktop and game. That's why I and many gamers have 2 displays- 1 for desktop/system monitoring, one to game on.
When alt+tabbing, the CPU and GPU work together. While i'm nore why it works in windowed mode, but a slow switch is expected. All 3 of my systems lag in alt+tabbing.

Re: Radeon HD 4870 Hang on downsize/upsize
Thanks for the reply, I guess I was just mainly making sure it wasn't something wrong with my new GPU. Weird thing is though, my old 8800 gts didn't have like any delay, any idea why?

Re: Radeon HD 4870 Hang on downsize/upsize
My sound repeats as if I froze when I downsize / upside, i'm pretty sure that's not supposed to happen. Can anyone give me a guess of the reason? maybe my psu is crapping out.
I'm still really concerned about this, and just trying to make sure it's nothing wrong with my new GPU so I know if I have to send it back before my time runs out. |
