corrupted display then no display at all
Hi
The other day I was casually going through my itunes playlists when my display started to flicker and small red dots appeared all over the screen, this carried on for about 2 minutes then the PC reset itself. I started in safe mode and encountered no problems with the display. I then turned everything off, removed my graphics card and made sure it was dust free because I thought it might be my gfx card overheating. Upon rebooting the same thing happened, at this point I thought it might be a virus so I did a system restore, at the point of windows starting up again my PC froze, I left it for a long while but saw absolutely no further activity so I did a cold reboot and now I am not getting anything on my display whatsoever, when I start the PC it gives two beeps seperated by a 5 second pause and nothing appears on the screen. I am using a DVI to HDMI lead connected to my LCD TV and have never had a problem similar to this before in the 2 years I have had my PC. My gfx card is a 8800GTX, I use Vista home premium, 2Gb RAM, E6600 CPU. I have tried resetting the CMOS and jumper settings also to no avail. I think it might have something to do with the PSU but am not sure, I have posted in this forum because it does seem to be display related. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: corrupted display then no display at all
My mobo is an Asus P5N 32 E SLI-plus, I haven't altered the BIOS since I bought the machine, do you know what BIOS these mobos have? Unfortunately as I can't get anything up on my display I can't ascertain this myself.

Re: corrupted display then no display at all
Yes, I tried a different video card and the PC wouldn't boot at all. I have narrowed it down to either my graphics card, RAM, or my system board. I have been told that it would be a good idea if I d/load memtest and run it to see if my RAM is faulty, however if I am not getting any display won't that be pointless?

Re: corrupted display then no display at all
The card I tried was an ATI X1950, my PSU is a 500W PSU, unfortunately at the present moment I am not in the vicinity of my PC so I can't tell you the exact model.

Re: corrupted display then no display at all
I went into a local computer store and they said that most likely it was my gfx card, I don't want to buy a new PSU if I'm not sure that it's definitely the problem, I might be able to borrow a volt-meter from work, what do I do with it if I can?
