Problem with drivers, computer freeze.

Ok while playing a game called Runescape the whole OS freezes out of no where and sits there for a while and comes back and says " Driver failure, was able to restart driver. " With no additional information. What could be causing this problem?

GPU - Geforce 8500GT 256MB

CPU AMD phenom 9600 2.3

3GB ram.

This was never an issue before and these issues came about after i installed the latest nVIDIA drivers. How can I roll back to previous drivers? ( if i can't solve the problem) The option in the properties of the device is grayed out.

Thanks in advance

Re: Problem with drivers, computer freeze.

BTW this is a java based game.

I have all the settings on max but I've never had an issue until I installed those new drivers. Now I can't even get back my old drivers for some reasons.. as i said the rollback feature is grayed out. Am i basically out of luck..?

And I know it has to do with Nvidia because after the freeze that driver is nvidia related. The only information it provides is nvidia driver failed and was able to recover...

Re: Problem with drivers, computer freeze.

Well I re-installed the drivers with any form of security turned off ( Nod32) and it seems to have installed fine.. I'm not getting any sort of issues now. We'll see if it stays like that.

Re: Problem with drivers, computer freeze.

Ok I've found out it very well may be heat related.

I'm unsure how Speedfan measures temps but these are educated guesses.

While playing this game my GPU seems to float around 52C, CPU at 55C Mobo at 55C and HDD at 22C

Temp1 - 52C Same as temp 2.

Temp 2 55C IDK if this is GPU or mobo, but even while it's not under load it's at 50C

Temp 3 22c Pretty sure this is the HDD(s)

Core 55C - I'm sure this is the CPU

Right before the driver fails these are the temps I'm seeing.

I'm about to order a new case that will hopefully keep these temps down. I'm working with a HP case 8400f that came stock with the computer.. If anyone can chime in and thinks it something other than heat please do, As I said I never had these issues before the driver installs.

UPDATE - Ok I stopped playing the game and these are normal temps just browsing and posting on A/V forums I generally go too.
Temp1 - 32C
Temp2 - 49C
Temp3 - 22C
Core - 33C

Re: Problem with drivers, computer freeze.

Well it was the drivers after all.

I installed a new driver using the windows auto function for drivers.. It found a previous version and installed it. Works like a charm now. Same performance with no crashes. Great

Just for future reference.. anyone who does have a geforce 8500gt stay away from the latest drivers from nvidia. Then ofcourse this could have been a specific problem with the driver + the game. But who knows.
