so I have a Dell Dimension E310, and i'm trying to hook it up to my new lcd tv, and i'm having problems, my picture is not appearing, i'm using a hdmi to vga cable, nothing, i called tech support at dell, they told me to go to the display setting and change the monitor display, however when i go here, there is no options of the 1 & 2 monitor, just one! do i need both the monitor and tv hooked up for this to appear, the man on tech support, pretty mush told me this was impossible. i just want my computer hooked up to my tv, but i dont have the option of s-video, because my computer does not support it. PLEASE HELP!

Im not positive, but I think you need a video capture card to do that.
I know you can send a signal to your tv from the pc, but didnt think you could send data from the tv to the pc, without video capture/ tuner card. If you could, why would there be a market for video capture cards at all? I could be totally off base here..

your video card/graphics card needs to have hdcp support and a dvi port i.e 7 series nvidia and above i have my 26" samsung lcdtv/monitor hooked up to my gpu via dvi to hdmi converter unless your tv has standerd vga input then you can use vga from pretty much any video card.
to set it up i had to use nvidia control panel to select the type of hdtv i have then choose what type of interface to use but it does work in vga mode as my main monitor just uses a lower than intended signal i.e vga instead of full 1080p hd. |
