[SOLVED] ATI Radeon HD 4850

I recently Upgraded my computer with a quad core and what not... specs... because i know ppl will ask...

Asus M3A78 - Mobo
AMD Phenom 9600 Black edition - Proc.
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 - VC
4 GB G Skill - RAM
100GB Western Digital - HDD

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2

Annnyways lets get to the issue... I just hooked up all the new parts ( the mobo/proc./vc/ram) And it all works out okay (downloaded and installed latest ATI drivers)... until i try entering a game(Call of Duty 4) it went through watever auto config it does after detecting new Hardware... So it starts okay, although im using a 1680x1050 compatible LCD monitor so i up the resolution for a nice picture... goes through usual things and ten it freezes resets to a horribly low resolution and messy color range stating "ati2dvag display driver has encountered an error... restart your computer blah blah..." So I do... try again and same error... It seemed to run fine before i changed resolution... NOTE: this isnt even in game jsut the menu....

So after i get this i decide to reinstall teh drivers...I go through... first boot after drivers are reinstalled i get a blue screen error stating ati2dvag had encountered an infinite loop error.... 0x000000EA ( might be 1 more or less 0's there) look it up to fin its simply an infinite loop error...

So i restarted it and seems to run okay... havent gotten an error again... havent tried running a game didnt think to... I'll report back on if anything else works

UPDATE: SAME problem.... my desktop runs at 1680x1050... game runs at the low resolution but i cant stand playing at that resolution... Not over clocking at all.... Maybe installing DirectX again?? cause i got a "Direct X has encountered an error it can not escape from" I have a feeling that error is caused by the ati2dvag not the other way around... help plz!!

I did not do a fresh install of windows... i would like to avoid reformatting the hard drive if at all possible...

Just a quick question... my HD 4850 is considered the 4800 series right?? if not i'm downloading the wrong drivers... although i thought ati would catch if it wasnt the right driver... tried googling it but nothing came up that was useful

Thanks for any help in advance

empty your DRM. I was having troubles after going quad, DRM fixed it.

have hidden files diabled, go C program data, microsoft, empty DRM folder.

yes i can see hidden folders

Re: ATI Radeon HD 4850

vga loads the generic driver so you see a screen and can see what you are doing
but it stops windows from loading it's version of the driver
if you have 2 versions loaded it can cause a conflict between them
glad you have it sorted
