Possible to Run Duel Vid Cards That Are Not The Same?

Hi,

I'm new to the forums but I was wondering, I am currently running a BFG 7900 GS on my Asus P5B board on XP but was wondering if I could slap an additional BFG 8600 GTS into the other PCIe slot. I don't want to run SLI, just I have two monitors and wanted to push out to another two monitors. I know that historically this is a no no and it doesn't help that the 7900 GS is DX9 while the 8600 GTS is DX10, but i was wondering if this would still be possible, and if so, what I needed to do? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

actually, if you have 2 PCIe slots and the same driver supports both cards under the same OS, it should work.

PCI-E requires 26 amps at 12 volts. That's a 650W PSU.

As long as you don't mix NVIDIA and ATI cards, you should be fine.

or any other brand/interface combination.

PCIe is the onlyI/O type that will support multiple GPUs running simultaneously. PCIe + PCI is known not to work, and very, VERY few boards came with both AGP and PCIe.

Thanks guys, installed the card and it worked perfectly. Work gave me two monitors and now I'm running a four monitor system at the home office!
