Confused 9800GX2 Video Card question

Hey all!

Well basically ive been planning to buy a GeForce 9800gx2 by EVGA, but in the UK it costs around £349.99 minimium in nearly all websites that delivers in my country. And also the fact EVERYWHERE is sold out, or discontinued

But ive been looking around in some american websites, and they sell them so cheaply ($388.26 Canadian Dollars) which is roughly around £205.20 which is an aboloute bargain to me! but most of them only deliver around USA
I found a website that does the 9800gx2, and delievers to the United Kingdom for £205, but the manufacture is called PNY, A company that i have never heard of, or seen any reviews on how well they perform etc.

here is the link

http://www.dytronix.com/shop/product...7&%3CosCsid%3E

**main point** so i was hoping that someone can either send me a link to a website that sells the eVGA 9800gx2, delivers to the UK. Only problem is my budget is £280 maximium...... so i hope somebody could help me....

Thanks.

Re: 9800GX2 Video Card question

Ok i now have a choice of a 9800GX2 1Gb (2x512) or a ATI HIS 4870x2 2Gb, I really want the 4870x2 now, but my motherboard is a SLI set-up. so would you recommend just going with the sli, or the crossfire (meaning buying new mobo).

Thia is just basically for Crysis and FarCry2. So i really want the smoothest game play and a high benchmark.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: 9800GX2 Video Card question

The 9800x2 are discontinued because the GTX260 is as fast or faster and cheaper to produce.

If you have a SLI nvidia chipset I would not want to use an ATI card, the driver conflicks will drive you nuts.

Not only that but the crytec games are really optomized for nvidia cards. They work perfectly fine on ati but are a little more consitantly stable on nvidia.

Re: 9800GX2 Video Card question

yeah i was wanting a 9800gx2 but the fact nvidia hasn't fully optimised the drivers for "quad sli" as they say. But the ATI has all the up to date drivers, i personally havent used an ATI video card before, but ive been constantly reading reviews about how poorly nvidia has came up with the gtx260,280's, 9800gx2 etc.

I found an interestting performance chart of all the up to date video cards playing the most recent games (on forum)

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/...x2-quad-280gtx

Looks pretty empressivein my opinion. Hehe, now stuck between 280 or 9800gx2, liking the 9800 cause its cheaper, and seems to be boosting the better frames...

hate nvidia bringin out so many new cards, so many to choose from :( used to be simple a few years ago haha :D

Re: 9800GX2 Video Card question

With both ati and nvidia the optimal setup is really just two cards. In nvidia once you add the third or forth card theres little to no performance increase for how much money you spent. Same with ati , somtimes there 3 card setup is faster then there 4 card setup.

I think the 9800 is better too simply because of the price.

Re: 9800GX2 Video Card question

apparently they discontinued the gx2 due to cost. I still say the 4850x2 or 4870x2 are better. Although i think i heard the 4870x2 might also be under scrutiny over costs?

I agree, although one other prob with the 4870X2 is that it eats power like its going out of fashion, lol

Re: 9800GX2 Video Card question

Yeah i think they may have stopped gx2's because its literally near impossible to find them now =/ i really like the sound of ati's 4870x2 but as you guys say that a power munching piece of kit, and a seriously doubt this power supply could handle it lol, max amps this power supply can handle on 12v rail is 50A or 40A (520w)
Hmmm, well i hope i made a damn good choice, and have enough money within a month to get a 2nd 9800gx2 =/

*lol, and i didnt mean to type "money money" twice :P*

Is the 9800gx2's not just 2 8800's but in one card :S?

Re: 9800GX2 Video Card question

no, the 9 series cars were a new 45 nm architecture i think. i have a 98 gtx in my dekstop at the dorm, was a big improvement granted i had a 7800 before. If i'd held out longer, i'da got a 4870 instead.
