HD 4870 1GIG Running Slow

My Specs:
Athlon 64 2X 3000+
3 gigs of DDR2
Raptor 10,000 RPM HD
MSI Mobo ( i believe the chipset is x580)
Diamond HD4870 1 gig PCI X
SOund Blaster Gamer Sound card
DSL
Windows XP Home SP2

I recently upgraded from a MSI 8800 GTX to a Diamond HD4870 1 GIG and instead of a performance gain, ive taken a performance loss. WIth the 8800 i was getting nice frames with game like AGEofCONAN and World of Warcraft, but the new card im taking some serious framerate loss. I went from like Avg. about 50-75 frames in AOC to 25-50 frames with the HD4870.Also WOW AVGs about 25-45 FPS. YEs i hae updated all drivers and have cleared out my old NVIDIA drivers....anybody have a suggestion?

Re: HD 4870 1GIG Running Slow

Seems your psu is ok. Dont think its the hdd's. Maybe for those games
that card just isnt as good as the nvidia. Might be remnants of the
old drivers still hanging around. Might try to set resolution down.
Hows your heat? For both cpu, and gpu...?

I used Driver Cleaner to clear out the old Nvidia drivers when i first got it. As far as heat, i OC the fan on the card to run anywhere from 50-100% using the CCC. It gets the GPU temp down to 40C-50C even with a game running....still no luck.

Also the monitor is a Dell 19inch my max rez is 1280by1024...thats what i play at...i was able to play like that with my 8800GTX without major issues and a nice picture.

I know of other people who have the HD4850 which is obviously not as fast, and they get better frames at least in WOW.
Its funny if its just the card doesnt like the games i play, i only spent the $300 to play "those" games....very unhappy if that is the case...never an ATI again...ill stick with NVIDIA..

Re: HD 4870 1GIG Running Slow

Ive always stuck with nvidia, not saying that ati doesnt make a good
card. You may need to play with settings with the ati card. Not real
comfortable with the catalyst thinga ma bob..I would think that there
is some way to tweak the ati card....maybe not,,
