Video Card and Driver Issue
Recently, after a Windows update that installed a newer nVidia driver, the computer would lose it's video signal right before reaching the shining Windows Vista symbol at startup.
I can enter safe mode just fine, but the problem occurs every time I would try to boot the computer. After trying various other video cards, power supplies, and all other things, I determined that there was a driver issue, which I removed in safe mode from the windows "Add or Remove Program". After removal of the driver, I am able to start windows normally, but the problem returns whenever any video card driver is installed. I have tried the most recent and the past 2 drivers, to no avail. I presume there is some sort of left over garbage from a previous driver that is causing the problems, but don't know how to get rid of it without a complete wipe of the drive. The current card is an EVGA 8600 GTS, also running Vista 32-bit. Thanks for any and all help and advice. |
