Dual Monitor Problem

I recently bought a new 22" Viewsonic monitor, hoping to dual up with my existing 19" monitor.

I have an ATI graphics card with a DVI and a DSub output.

I originally connected my DVI to the new 22", and the DSub to the 19". This worked fine and I got both monitors connected. I then installed UltraMOn to manage the two monitors.

This worked fine for a day or two, then I tidied up under my desk, and took the opportunity to open up my PC and blow out some of the dust that hade collected there.

Evere since then I have been having problems with my monitors. I get a 'No Digital Signal' message, rendering the system inoperable. A couple of times I was able to tweak the cables and get it working again, but not today. Nothing gets it up and running.

I have tried different cables, no joy. I have connected the PC to an old monitor and it works, so the video card seems okay.

Anyone any ideas that I can check out?

Re: Dual Monitor Problem

If anyone is actually looking at this, I have some more info.

Oddly, it does not work in my study at all. However, if I set it up in my dining room, even with the same DVI and DSUB cables, it works just fine.

I only have the usual amount of equipment in my study, ADSL router, phones, stereo, shredder, printer, a laptop and another PC (the latter two rarely on, and haven't been in these tests). It can't be interference can it?

Re: Dual Monitor Problem

Never heard of interference causing a monitor not to work completely
Try setting it back up in your study making sure to hook up the cables exactly as you have them now.

Re: Dual Monitor Problem

usually no input/output is a gfx card or power problem...I'd be looking for loose connections myself.

Re: Dual Monitor Problem

Are you getting enough power in that outlet? That's weird. Other than that, it's probably just a loose connection somewhere. You should open up your comp and check.

I have done that a couple of times since I found this happening, and it works every time in the ding room, not at all in the study.

That's what I thought, but it is just too reliable. Works downstairs, not upstairs, every time. Power is an interesting thought though, I do have a lot of items sharing the circuit in the study. I'll play with that a bit.

I have done that a few times. I have taken out the video card and re-seated it, checked all the visble connections, nothing seems loose. As I say, it is the predicability that is so odd, a loose cable would be either always not working, or far more intermittent I would thing.
