Installed new gfx card now my pc is slowing down
Ok let me start off with what i have.
Gateway GT5473E Desktop Windows Vista AMD Athlon 64 X2 Processor 4000+ 2GB of DDR2 Ram Geforce 6150 (Integrated Gfx) I play world of warcraft and my fps was about 3-9 which sucked so i decided to upgrade and install a gfx card i chose a xfx geforce nvidia 9800 gt i disabled my 6150 integrated and shut down my computer i installed the new card booted up my system installed drivers from nvidia's website restarted and then i logged into my game...i was amazed by the boost in gfx and fps. i close the game and i notice just simple things like opening a web browser or right cliking on the desktop takes a bit of time when b4 it did all instantly. i accepted it for a few days until it got annoying so i opened my pc back up to check the card and i see i forgot to plug one of the molex connectors in (i used the 6 pin to dual 4pin molex connector that came with card so im like oh maybe this will fix it so i plug the other in and boot up and after that world of warcrafts performance had decreased which really upset me...i thought for a min and opened my pc up and looked at my psu and to my horror its only 160watt max output...for some reason i assumed it was much higher than that but does any1 know if upgrading my psu will fix my system slow down? any tips and info would be greatly appreciated i also have an external wifi plugged into a usb port and a wireless mouse so those prob suck alot of power along with my speakers

Re: Installed new gfx card now my pc is slowing down
yes it would. the 9800gt comsumes 105W by itself, so if you run it on that psu, the psu will fail very fast... so you'll need a quality 650w+ psu

Re: Installed new gfx card now my pc is slowing down
I have the corsair 750 TX PSU (thats the one you're going to get?)
i have GTX 260 and it runs perfectly fine on my system while playing crysis on max settings for hours. SO if you ever upgraded later on it would be able to handle it the gtx 260 consumes something like 183watts in games and 25w on desktop and something like 35w in video playback. The corsair should be able to handle a 9800GX2 |

Re: Installed new gfx card now my pc is slowing down
yeah thats the one i bought it should arrive in a day or two im excited to see how much better my pc performs, my old psu had only a 20 pin connector for the motherboard and my motherboard had the 24 pin receiver other than not overheating will using the 24 pin with it help my components function better, and i like your avatar btw lol

Re: Installed new gfx card now my pc is slowing down
ohh the nicholas cage avatar? hahahahaha
yes using the 24 pin connector is going to help your motherboard work better! not using it well I dunno it may fry or something. The stress of the psu trying to load the power into something smaller than when it should be a larger connection and the motherboard's strain of trying to use less power than what it should be getting is never a good combo. |
