Sound popping with Vista/8800GT

My sound started popping a couple days ago and I couldn't figure out why. Reformatted a couple times and as I was installing my drivers one by one I noticed that the popping would come back after installing the nvidia drivers. The sound is perfect with Vista's VGA drivers but as soon as I update to the nvidia drivers the sound comes back.

Things I have done so far with no success:
  • replaced powersupply from antec 500w to seasonic 550w
  • reinstalled vista ultimate
  • moved 8800gt from one pci-e slot to the other
  • installed newest and older drivers
  • switched speakers/used digital out instead of HD AUDIO

Things that have been somewhat successful:
  • removed 8800gt and installed 7900gs
  • installed both 8800gt and 7900gs*
  • used vista's vga drivers instead of nvidia's

The first really isn't an option as I'd like to use my 8800gt. The second option has worked; I am driving two monitors and the popping seems to only occur when I have both monitors connected to the 8800.

Now I don't mind running two graphics card as long as there is no popping sound, but I only have a stock fan on my 7900GS and it's one of those XFX fans that run at max speed all the time no matter what. Basically, the fan on the 7900GS is louder than all 7 of the other fans in my case put together.

System specs:
Vista Ultimate 32-bit
XFX 8800GT
ABIT IP35 PRO mobo
onboard sound
dell 2407 + 2408 monitors
XFX 7900GS (temporary)

Any help would be appreciated. I've exhausted my options as far as searching goes. Found a couple of people with similar problems but they all resolved without posting how. :(

Re: Sound popping with Vista/8800GT

Well, the 8800GT went out on me today. I was browsing around and the computer just shut off. I thought I lost power but everything else on the circuit was still on. The system wouldn't boot so I figured the new Seasonic PSU went out. (was getting 8.7. error on the ABIT mobo readout)

Pulled the PSU and tested it on an old board and it powered up so I went barebones and added components one by one. Plugging the PCI into the 8800GT and start-up is a no go. Just to see if it was the PSU or not I tossed in an Antec 500W psu and same thing; everything boots fine until I plug the PCI-e cable into the 8800GT. Something must've gone bad on graphics card or something. I figure it's been on its way out ever since the popping issues. Now to see if XFX will RMA me.
